hello all id like a Jonsered just like the looks of them.My question are they a ton of difference in these 2 models?prob 85% of time be using a 20 inch bar.
Also are the Jonsereds same quality as say a Stihl

Better!! Better quality than a Stihl!! :)

Of course, I may be biased...

I'll admit to having no trigger time on the 2165, and I've only had my 2171 for a short time.

But for a 20" bar, the 2165 will be just fine. My 2171 wears a 20 incher, and it's double quick with it.

That being said, though, you basically get another 3/4 horse or so with the 2171, and with almost no weight penalty. (As I understand it, they're the same chassis. SawTroll can confirm/deny that, though.) According to Tilton's website, however, the 2165 engine is supposed to be tuned for a wider toruque curve, so it may have more low-end grunt and a more forgiving powerband. Not that the 2171 is particularly "peaky," however.

But the 2171 also has the quick-release cylinder cover, which I like.

Tilton's site says the 2165 has an outboard clutch, but it also says my 2171 has an outboard clutch, which it does not. If that's important to you, best to verify first.

I love the Jonsered line...I was drawn to it by a good dealer down the street from me. Any Husky mechanic can work on it, too...there's not a terrible amount of difference between the two. The biggest is the straight-across handlebar the Jonny wears, which again I happen to think is more comfortable to run.

Don't know that I've helped much, but if SawTroll doesn't chime in here soon send him a PM. He's probably got the goods on both models.

No matter which way you go, I think you'll be pleased. Jonnys Rock!!! :rockn:

Same saws as a 365 and 372 Husky, just in red color and differant handle bars...Do a search.

Haven't bought a saw yet? buy a 7900 and a 5100 and be done with it...

Knock that off, Freak!! Can't you see this is a quality guy looking for a QUALITY saw??? :D

One other thing...you mention 85% of the time it'll be wearing a 20" bar, but you didn't say what the other 15% would be. If you think you'll ever need a 28" bar, better get the extra stank in the 2171, especially if you're in harder wood. If the rest of the time is a 24", you should be okay either way.

well i'm not sure hoping to start a tree clearing business, just have to see how it goes

Go 71

I've got a 2171 and have been real happy with it. I wore out Three chains with 20 inch bar and then put on a 28. I've got 3 more chains 2/3 wore out with the 28 inch on. I cut a big variety of wood and can't complain at all about the power. More power same weight tipped me to to 2171 over the 2165. :D

thank you how much more is the 2171

Buddy of mine has a Jons 2170, might be the 2171, he's had it for 3-1/2 yrs now, always wears a 28" bar. He had power to spare with that thing, we spent a couple days in 24-30" oak, he was cutting faster than three guys could get the rounds out of the way, and he made my 360pro/24" look like it was standing still. Some kind of air injection or something, loud too, yep, real nice saw.

you keep asking questions, yet you refuse to use the search function and find all the answers to your questions...

There is a lot of reason no one answered anything in this thread you had a month ago titled the same...http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=39710&highlight=2171

Here are some to help get you started.......

FWIW, I like my 372 better than my 2071, which is the same saw as the 2171 without the side chain adjuster and semi transparent fuel tank

i do do the searches but does'nt answer my specific question

Expect to pay roughly $125 more than a 2165.

Like Freak mentioned, the 2171 is just like the 372, and for the most part, the 372 has been discontinued here in the States. Baileys has some full-wrap 372s, and there are still a handful out there in dealer inventory, but most everywhere it's sold out...replaced by the 575. (Jred doesn't have an equivalent to the 575 yet.) There's rumors both ways as to whether or not Husky will bring in another batch of 372s in 2007, but for the most part I think it's hard to get a bargain on any of the remaining 372s.

The 372 has been kind of a superstar of sorts...there's plenty of posts on it here at AS. And since most saw guys know the 2171 is the equivalent, I'm guessing that Jred dealers have a new monopoly of sorts! Long story short, it may be a little tougher to bargain for the 2171 now.

Spike60 is a Jred dealer in NY, you probably would want to get his opinion on that though.

Yes, you are - I would say pretty much the same, just different....

Both have inboard clutch/ outboard sprocket. :biggrinbounce2:

....

He has picked my head pretty extensively already, via pms....

Freakingstangs sayings should weight more than mine, as he unlike me has run both versions extensively - but I sure wouldn't want the weight of the 2165 over the MS361, without the power of the 2171.

:deadhorse:
