Dude....I'm glad you have it all figured out. Feel better? Did it help you feel better about yourself for by showing that I did not know as much about this saw as you did? Get a sense of self worth and then get a life.

If anyone should be upset its the guy who dropped $346 on your saw!

The pictures pretty well show the condition of the saw. I sure as hell wouldn't have bought it.

That said, I don't see how the seller did anything wrong. All the information was out there. I think the bidders should have exercised more restraint, but none of this is the seller's fault. He made out like a bandit and should be happy.

Time will tell if the seller is disappointed and takes advantage of Ebay's idiotic-buyer's remorse 'program'.

I stand by what I said, dude, the saw was shite for the $$$. So what if a fool is born every minute...you left yourself no latitude for a decent shipping procedure in the beginning, although at the time you had no idea that it would go so high. The buyer was either a fool or just desperate enough to own 90, that they paid the outrageous fare. Sure ebay is a free market system, but it's easily corrupted with items that aren't really what they appear to be, or items that can cause a feeding frenzy. You won this round at somebody's expense...braggin that you only paid $75 for the saw pretty much says it all....that's what the sellr got..a $75 saw.

Agreed....and I didn't bid on it, but would on a decent represented 90. In this case, the buyers were just being stupid for what it was. So far the seller hasn't convinced anyone it was a 'great deal'...it was not. He didn't misrepresent anything for sure and the pics themselves told the real story. Or in a case like that with a saw in that kinda condition, you can just play stupid. Hell, it was like a lot of mangled saws coming out of NA for example, wrong choke lever, jury rigged POS. I don't care and I was just giving an opinion. The seller has his panties in a bunch because someone stated what the saw really was. Obviously my opinion of the saw didn't affect the sale, so I don't know what he's complaining about. And who needs a life?

So dude, the pejorative question now is since you're a relatively new AS member;Do you plan to join in our Jonny discussions, or are we just going to go 'round & 'round about the pig you just sold? Hell, you might actually learn something here, I know I have.

I took Robin's advice and ordered the carb-to-manifold gasket from Jacks Small Engine for a Husky model. They run about $1.50ea...I got six...best investment I ever made for the 80/90 and they fit the Husky 2100 as well. This is for the saws with HS carbs and the squiggly impulse channel on the intake manifold. Husky part #:501 29 64-02

LOL...lot easier than making them ain't it? The worst ones to make are the ones that go between the isolation block and the cyl on the older Jonsereds......some are just plain crazy like the 49SP.........something like 7 bolts that hold the manifold to the cy plus the impulse hole......the 66/70E, 80 and 90 has 5 if I remember right.......then the 111S has only two.....I could never figure any of that out...why they did that.......wasn't like they was real worried that the little 49SP was going to shake the carb off the cyl...LOL!!!

On another note.......there is no place where egos and wallets run amuck worse than an auction......I have personally watched folks bid an item, that was questionable at best, right out past what the exact same item would cost brand new!!! Went to many a tool/machine auctions....Nutz!!! That old saw was a perfect example.....I probably would have been hard put to have given the $75.........I hate overspray/bad paint jobs......to me this always devalues any item....same with that "Muff Mod"....but ..hey...that's me......to some others those old gimmicks still work. The seller did very well on this auction.....the buyer knew not what the true value really was...both these things are obvious..

Yeah I confess..it was MUCH easier for $1.50 than making one.:p Yeah, you wonder at the efficacy in making 7 bolts to hold the manifold to the cylinder on that little 49sp?o_O I don't remember offhand the number of bolts on the 80/90. Too many for what is and especially since the mighty 111S only has two?!

As far as that pig 90 that sold on ebay, more power to the seller although I think it was all a sham/frenzy buying. Yeah I've been to those tool auctions where the stuff was bid up over the price of comparable new.....gotta wonder what Kool aid they were sipping that day. I'm however, going to continue to comment on any Jonny saw I see on ebay of note, in case any of the AS members are interested in bidding on it.

I agree. I have no interest in buying somebody else's crappy paint job. Modifications from the original form reduce value. Wear is OK, defacing is not.

But, these are all concerns of the buyer. Nobody had a gun to his head, and that 90 was certainly not misrepresented. As a third party sometimes-buyer, my only concern might be the value of these old saws being driven up by nonsense such as this. There is, however, very little I can do other than refuse to bid. And complaining about it on this forum will accomplish zilch.

80 and 90 both have 5 bolts similar to the 66/70E......commenting is good.....make ya wonder though......new guy with 5 posts shows up right here, in this sticky, to get after you about speaking your mind on that add that the whole world can see.....Hmmmmmm??......I buy a lot of old, used Jonsereds saws/parts and NOS parts off ebay and always like info/input....I'm pretty cheep....and very rarely buy a complete running saw....bought only two that way...most always buy saws or parts of saws most would not want anyway...LOL!!! It's rare I get disappointed and sometimes very pleasantly surprised. I bought a junked out 90 once for the top cover and air filter setup....I think it was $26...plus like $15 shipping....before I got it the guy messaged me and apologized for the bad condition and said he would refund part of the price........I told him to wait and see as I was really only interested in parts that I was quite sure were in OK condition.....so it arrived......LOL.....it had been sitting under a dryer vent I would say as it was covered in lint and smelled strongly of "Fabreeze"...LOL!! It was quite gummed up!!!! I got back to him and said that I wished it was a little better but was still totally satisfied with the purchase......he refunded the entire price...I only paid the very reasonable shipping......how's that for an ebay seller???? Lots of good parts. Good runnable P&C.....crank bearings shot from moisture...good covers I wanted..ign system etc. He got all the good feedback I could give him!!!!

You don't get it. I did not care your opinion of the saw or what you thought rather your implication on my ethics and integrity. In your first post you stated "items that aren't really what they appear to be" ; implying misrepresentation when you weren't even reading my eBay post correctly. In a later post you stated" "He didn't misrepresent anything for sure". Make up your mind. That's what I responded to.

That's a great point because most of us could care less about that saw or what it brought...we wouldn't have bought it. But the danger of that is the perceived value that ebay tends to foster. Every time a pig saw like that sells high, it tends to drive the base value up for the rest of us buyers. Great if you're a seller, not so great if your still using these saws or collecting. This same saw just a yr ago would have brought $150 tops...on a good day. I don't see anything in the economy that would tell me the same saw is now worth twice that. So yeah...just don't bid.....

We do this all the time on car forums;comment on and link to a car for sale on ebay, car lots, CL etc. Sellers don't comer back in there and warn us to be 'careful of what we say'. I don't see any difference in this case.

I think you don't get it...I never said you misrepresented anything. Don't go the inference of "misrepresentation" route in what I first wrote. You can't read my mind and damn sure didn't know what I was thinking. I pointed out what was wrong with the saw and your general confusion in selling it. It has nothing to do with you personally and doesn't make for libelous accusations. I made up my mind..you just need to study English a bit more thoroughly. You're spending a lot of time & energy trying to make me out the bad guy here, while you should be laughing all the way to the bank. You probably won't sell a saw to any of us, but who cares? I blame ebay and stupid, uninformed buyers, not you.

LOL...the first Fabreeze saw I ever heard of...great story! Yeah, I would think anyone buying or collecting Jonsered saws would relish comments about a particular saw for sale. I might see and comment on something that somebody else didn't notice, for example. I actually saw more wrong than I initially stated with the pig 90;like the jury rigged choke lever, but didn't mention it. And it's totally your right to agree or disagree with the comments. I too buy more parts and part saws than whole saws...just WAY too much of a gamble sight unseen. Deep pockets are one thing, common sense is another. Most of the time you can tell by the pics & the description if it's going to be a decent parts saw or not. Unless it's been underwater...which we both have dealt with in the past.

Was wondering if anyone has an estimate of what I'd be paying to get my Jonesred 2094 rebuilt at a dealer. The compression is low(140-145) and she is tired. I'd like to get thing lined out so I can get back to milling later this summer(she is my big timber saw). Was thinking along the lines of rings, clean up the port to let her breathe, and then a general 'clean up'.
Any thoughts on what is reasonable on the quote?(Would just like to be knowledgeable to keep the 'butt cream' in the medicine cabint-if you know what I mean)

Scott (got the saw from a deceased person, I'll pay to keep her 'golden') B

Very hard thing to put a price on sight unseen....$250 or so for a real port job.....might get by with rings....but I would recommend a new piston especially for milling...Meteor is about $43 for that saw.....definitely I'd put in a set of crank seals...if nothing more cheap insurance to protect the rest of the investment..$20 or so...carb kit, line and new filter...$25...misc gaskets...$15......labor cleaning and rebuilding the whole thing???? .......call it $150.......so.......to do it right.....start it up and use it......gonna take $500 or so, minimum......no porting.....half that....probably a little more ..not sure but that's my best guess.

Totally agree with what Robin said. The cylinder bores are usually really hard chrome moly...but need to be checked top, middle and bottom for true-ness. And while at it, check the crank and rod for any unusual play. Hone the cylinder lightly, port the *****, new piston & rings for sure, new crank seals....break down the entire carb, soak in sauce and rebuild. That should about do 'er....since I do this myself, I have no idea what somebody would charge....but I think three-four hrs would be close plus parts.

Randy Evans (mastermind ) sponsor here will tear down the saw completely for $50 when done with a port job.
Then you pay for any required parts.

Ditto call Randy.
