Wise man....although I don't appreciate the folks hording NOS parts and asking really exorbitant prices now.......like that guy back east I dealt with....sawdust_man on eBay. If you have a NOS plastic top cover for a Husky 2100, you can ask about whatever you want and some collector will pay it. I hate when the hobby took that turn.....

If your dealer has decent prices yeah, $75-$100 should put you back into the game with the 90. Coil on the 80 page is at $50 something presently...but that's eBay.

Yeah this dealer is in his late eighties doesn't really get the concept of rare parts lol he just tells me that their hard to find anymore and still charges what the original price would cost you back in the early nineties lol I got all those hard to find rubber mounts for my 820s 30s nos from him for about 4$ a pop but just like that then his price to sell a 670 piston nos was at 97$ a couple years ago so I went aftermarket on that

Factory pistons were never cheap, he might not be too far off of original prices there. I would always go NOS on pistons unless I was absolutely assured that the aftermarket was just as good. Some are and some aren't and it's becoming a quagmire these days.

I bought most of the part groups for a 910 on eBay.....very decently priced and the saw had low hrs. It would have been nice just to get the whole saw, but they parted it out completely. I was talking with the seller about that rare AV that connects the full-wrap handle back to the saw on the clutch side for the 80/90. It's been hard to get since the late 80's. She threw a NOS one in as a goodwill gesture! That was classy.....

I recently picked up a 525 with a recoil issue. I replaced the recoil spring and when I turn over the motor it sounds very rattly. When trying to check the ring to see if it was stuck the whole piston seems to move up and down slightly as if the wrist pin or big end bearing might be shot. It pumps about 130psi

And thank you Ray for passing it on for my 90. Mine looks good except for a broken top handle bracket, any spares about. I think I saw one on Chainsawr. Also picked up a 525 with a recoil issue. From the ipl all the pieces seem to be there just not put together? P&C on the 525 look OK just a little carbon scoring, didn't come with a bar and chain. Guessing .325, I may have a bar off a John Deere that will fit.

OK so my top handle bracket for the 90 and the recoil spring for the 525 came in. The bracket wont slide onto the aluminum top handle as it apparently was slightly bent when the ATV run over the saw. So I'll have to remove the handle and see if I can't hammer it straight.

The recoil spring worked fine but the motor sounds odd when i turn it over, rattly. I was poking at the ring to see if it was free moving and found that the piston moves up and down loosely as if the con rod bearing maybe pouched. The saw may need to be split and get new bearings seals and such. Not really done that before. Maynot be worth it for a saw that may not sell for more than $125.00

Before you split the case on the case 525, remove the jug and see what you find for play on the wrist pin/bearing and play in the crank. I think you'd be better off putting the 90 handle in a vice and gently trying to straighten the tubing with something slid in the open end tight and prying. Maybe a dowel rod of the appropriate size. I dunno....have to see it.

Have you started the 90 yet?

Kevin

Yes I started the 90 and it seems to run OK. I've got the handle off and I'll see what I can do to straighten it up. I don't want to break the replacement bracket.

Thanks for the tips on the 525. The movement I saw was through the exhaust port. I've never seen a piston move up and down like that. Not sure if the bearings would be NLA. I could probably get more for the coil than I paid for the saw.

The wrist pin bearing may not be that hard to find......the wrist pin itself, that's another story. The 525 is not the classic, older Jonsereds, so maybe there are parts for it yet. Yeah, I'd be really dubious about putting much money into the 525. As it is, it may part out for more than it's worth, although I don't know the market demand on that particular saw.

Really?.......that's why they became known as the "Junksered" models I guess......don't own a one...have two at the shop a 520 and 535 Classic.....to fix for other people...have to be in the correct frame of mind to even work on them so I don't just hit them with a Big Fat Hammer........put everyone's misery behind them....

Sorry for your loss....the spring will fit others though......

Don't sugar coat it Robin, tell us how you really feel.
Just kidding, I don't get very excited about those saws either, but I know a guy who won a new 520SP in a school raffle and he loves it. It was never used professionally, but it has seen a lot of use. He likes it better than his 625. It takes all kinds, I guess?
