The wrist pin bearing may not be that hard to find......the wrist pin itself, that's another story. The 525 is not the classic, older Jonsereds, so maybe there are parts for it yet. Yeah, I'd be really dubious about putting much money into the 525. As it is, it may part out for more than it's worth, although I don't know the market demand on that particular saw.

OK I popped the jug off and found that the con rod bearings seem fine, ring look OK and is loose but the piston has chunks out of one of the skirts and serious scoring below the ring on that side. Cylinder looks pretty good just a little carbon scoring but very light. I can't see anything that the piston has been hitting and there are no shards/fragments in the sump.

I think the noise I'd mentioned earlier has been coming from the recoil starter.

It is a decent looking 80...missing the bottom plastic wing and the full-wrap is cut as usual at the bottom, because the AV is extinct. The full-wrap is also steel(notice the rust), some more proof that they came steel or aluminum(I have both in my stable).

I think he will get his price if he can wait a bit. He might need the cash though and $150 takes it now....sure wouldn't hurt to try if anyone wants the saw. Had 16 people watching when I was in there.

As I told you at the 'other' saw site....replace the piston with a best quality one, Caber rings and polish the jug's bore....consider flipping the saw once it's running right and keep some of the profits to feed the 90, which is a fantastic saw in its own right.

Kevin

That place sells saw parts....so the actual brand name of the piston will be different. Maybe someone here has dealt with them in pistons before. You could always ask the seller what brand it is.

I checked my usual places and the rings are no problem, but the piston is. Chainsawr had one for about $80 used with a wrist pin & bearing...that gives you an idea on cost for used OE. As Robin wisely said, I sure wouldn't put a lot of money into the 525 family; a family that by most accounts, nearly ruined Jonsered's rep.

Kevin

Yeah, I meant to say it had the jug as well(doh!). Maybe some of the guys can weigh in on AM piston kits, or maybe you've used them in the past?

In any event, I am excited about your 90...lol. About the worst thing that happens with those robust 90's is that someone who knows nothing about points, has gone in and moved the points plate, causing the saw timing to be off. There are no corresponding reference marks...so you actually have to follow the SM's directions to reset the timing.

I have had it running when Comp was down at 130 seemed to be OK, didn't piss rev it though. Since the sprocket bearing fell apart in my hand I haven't had it running.
Comp it now up to 170, with a little Break Free. It has lost a lot of paint and a number of screws have been replaced with Robertson headed screws. It doesn't have a dog so the muffler has a few bumps, like the 49sps get for the same reason. If the 90 is anything a nice to run as the 49sp I'll be happy. I think the bar that came with it, 20" is probably toast. Maybe the 24" bar off my Homelite 923 might fit. Haven't ordered the new bearing yet, been distracted with the 525

It'll run great at 170psi, but the oil in there may be giving you a false reading(high). I have a lot of spare OE screws for the 80/90...let me know if you want some. The 90 is a serious saw with some serious torque. You're gonna need dawgs on it, because bucking with that torque will pull you right into the log and smash your muffler more. No saw like that should ever be run without dawgs.

The bars are the old J'red mounts.....10mm. Some of the large mount Husky bars will work right off(sloppy 9.5mm) without even modification. Others need a touch of trimming. Plus, there are always a fair amount of older 10mm bars for sale on eBay. I've got a bunch of the old Oregon bars with the half-moon, three rivet tip .404 sprockets and I can't find those tips ANYWHERE these days!

Hi Kevin,

Looks like I'm missing 3 top cover allen head screws and 4 recoil screws. I would also buy a dog from you if you had an extra. Then I just need to get the sprocket bearing and should be pretty much done unless I wanted to do a repaint.

Regards,

Lee

Hey Lee,
I've got those screws and probably at least one standard dawg....which would be J'red OE and they are pitifully small for my use, so I have no use for them. Are you sure the thread holes are OE...PO's do some seriously weird things rather than find the correct screws/bolts?

Kevin

Actually to be fair I just need one recoil cover allen head bolt. The Robertson screws on the top cover work just fine and two of the recoil screw threads have been opened up but the screws in place work fine. The OEM dog would be great. I would be happy to pay the freight.

The recoil handle is kind of perished, but nice and soft. I do have a full D shaped handle that I could use.

Shame about the Christmas thread this year, the spirit seems all wrong.

Appreciate your interest and support.

Regards.

Lee

The recoil handles on the older J'reds turn to mush. Dunno why because they don't on the older Huskies....you'd think they would have used the same supplier/contractor. There's a composite one that fits perfectly into the square hole base on the 90....really cheap, but stiff. I don't have one because I stupidly bought NOS handles from sawdust_man for like $35 ea.

Don't know anything about the Christmas thread....I tend to stir the pot in threads where there's a lot of inside, clique stuff going on. Just as soon stay away these days.

Happy to send whatever I have in overstock like what you're asking about......I'll never use them in my lifetime.

Sort of off topic but I figure you guys could offer some advice...
Rebuilding my cj3a this winter and decided to paint it Jonsereds red/black. Friend of mine already named it Nord Feller. Any other ideas for making it into a vintage Jonsereds logging rig?

I want to start out by saying I love your CJ. A 2a or 3a is in my future, just waiting for the right one at the right time.
As much as I like Jonsereds, I'd leave the 3a just as she is. It has the look I love in a flat fender.
But if you're going to do it, I'd go black wheels, red body, black hood and silver windshield.

Thanks for the advice guys. Already have an underhood DC arc welder kit for it that I picked up years ago...could run a chain grinder off it. Maybe put a skidding winch on the back? Buddy wants me to put an ARB air compressor under the seat with a tube bumper for air storage...be able to blow out the saws! Just brainstorming, haha. Suppose I should start a thread in a different forum so I can post updates but not sure where this fits?

Have a neighbor with a modern Jeep that did the air compressor thing and storage in the bumper....he hates it, just sayin'. System is pretty punk overall to use, but I had no part in it, so don't know if it was installed properly.....takes forever for the pump to build up pressure and the reserve is puny.

As long as it's J'red related, or as tribute too....I don't see why it can't stay. We had a beautiful little baby girl in here with J'red underwear!

I've got an original '62 Dodge military ambulance (M-43) that I've had since I was loggin' and living on the job sites....should get that back here while I can still drive it....lol. It's stored one state over. Actually saw it today as a matter of fact....what a beast.

Nice meat on the Jeep Jeep.
