Is this the Jimmy Shannon from 25 years ago Bartlett in Southbury, CT? Man if it's you it's been a long time glad to see you still going at er! if it's not.. Hello Jimmy my name is Rich with Passion For Trees. So much good advice for you on this thread about the tree. I agree with most of it. The big thing that concerns me is not seeing a large root area , it's been covered by pavers and such, possible grade change and that means organic soil has been stripped. Good thing about Oaks are they are pretty resilient. One thing other than the obvious Cleaning all dead decayed branches and very little thinning if any, fixing bad cuts and stubs. I would stay away from the Fertilizing the tree with a high nitrogen level. You dont want this tree to GROW but stay healthy and compartmentalize and really important no one mentioned as of yet is promote root growth. Mycorrhizae and beneficial bacteria a plant health care product called Formerly PHC now Lebanon Turf, it's called PHC injectable. I would check into Cambistat also,a growth regulator which will stunt it's growth for about 3 - 5 years while giving it lots of beneficials aiding in longevity! It's nice to see the efforts into doing what you can for this tree. What still worries me is what has been done in the past with the pavers / grade change ect. If you see decline starting more rapidly or mushrooms around the base area, its time to think of the high risk consequences over a building as such.
