i see it's biggest limitattion..................

The pic is small but the ramp on top extends and raises. Can extend as high as some 3 story buildings. Just raise it up even with the bottom of a window smash the window toss in a flash-bang and send the troops on in.

Just another tool in the arsenal, like many it has its limitations but it works well.

it's a Ford. :biggrinbounce2:

Funny how may times I have been commuting with one of these rolling (A-Team designed) armored tanks on RT 2.

The OP should look more towards special forces tactics, unless it was for rescue then maybe rock-climbing. Just don't see a realistic application for an officer to hang around for long periods of time, unless for rescue situations.

Running chainsaws while undercover in a tree can't be practical, and draws a lot of attention.

Jut like the rest of our POS fleet.

But I am gonna take you for a ride in the back of one of the little white ones

heres a little tidbit about where I work for those not familiar with it (doesnt include fishercat because hes there trying to hire his ground crew all the time)

in the first one we were rated 24th most dangerous

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/...ist-of-25-Most-Dangerous-Cities-72656322.html

but we have been higher 7th below and 4th in 95 but cant find that

Exactly

The idea of being a Tackleberry on the end of a rope with someone shooting at me with an AK-47 doesn't sound too good! I honestly thought the rappelling down and crashing through a window was HolyWood hogwash. Sure seems to me like the bad guy would be shooting fish in a barrel while the SWAT operators are crashing up against super-strong tempered glass and bouncing off.

I'm not a big fan of police executing no-knock search warrants in the first place. Often times they will hit the wrong address and wipe out an entire innocent family, all because they thought the guy sold an 8th ounce of weed or whatever. And after all that, who's accountable? Nobody. The cops get off scott-free. Hey not to rant on you personally man, I'm sure you're a good cop on the up-and-up, but I've heard about way too many bad ones into this para-military stuff and all they want to do is kill someone for a stupid reason. Again, nothing against you personally!

If you want to rap, I mean really all you need is a saddle, a rescue 8, some 3% static line (the black stuff as I call it) and a couple 'biners. Just make darn sure when you get down to the window or whatever that you've got some way to see through it. Some rounds are better at going through glass and maintaining trajectory than others as well. For example, believe it or not a 9mm will handle glass at an oblique angle much better than a big 'ol .45. Rock on.

Hey guys, its been a couple years since I have been on here- left tree care to become member of Indiana State Police.
On one of the law enforcement forums, a member asked about tactical repelling and needing equipment and training. I replied with my experience and how I thought that some tree care equipment might work for repelling. I thought I would come on here and ask for help, seeing as though you make your livelihood from climbing.
Here is the link to the thread... http://policelink.monster.com/topics/69614-tactical-rappelling/posts . The question is new, so at this time, there are no replies. Seems as though it would be a start up program needing all equipment, also some training (possibly aerial rescue training maybe?).
I am sending him a link to this thread so he can monitor it, hopefully it will do some good and he can pass it up the chain of command. I am also looking for people in his area that maybe he can stop in on a job and see the equipment in action and maybe on free time try it for first hand experience. His profile states he is in "Allendale, MI". I have no clue where that is, maybe someone here can help. Hopefully someone lives there or near there that they can meet!?
If anyone can help, you can reply here or PM me, or email me at "[email protected]"

I only chimed in because I think I am qualified to give my opinion. Though I do as much tree work as I can (almost full time as second job) I come from a 6 year Military Special Forces background 16 years as a cop in the ghetto, 6 years as a SWAT team member Entry Team and Sniper until I got promoted and recently returned to the Team as a Supervisor. My Team has done 128 operations in the last year so I would say we are pretty busy. We trained on rappelling 10 years ago with experts from Special Ops. The team spent thousands of dollars on equipment(harnesses ascenders, descenders, biners ropes, bags). All the gear is sitting in our cage in buckets and never gets used. being in and around an active SWAT team for 16 years I can not think of an instance were it was needed. We do now have a Bearcat with the ramp for upper floor entries (similar to the picture below).

Man, I'm bringing you to the next hurricane, Treeslayer and SWAT-O-MATIC!
We'll kill em!:yourock:

ChipDoogle: that link definitely gives compelling reasons to rig up with safety rappelling gear even if you have no plans to come down the side of a building.

I had never considered the need to hang over the edge shooting down; but then...that isn't what I do for a living.

Their cute toy doesn't look like it does anything different than a gri-gri, and it looks a bit more cumbersome to use.

They put the word "tactical" in front of it so they can charge 10X as much.

Man they shouldn't waist the teams money I will give them boxes of the crap full of dust balls and all. We still have like 600' of that black rope 4 harnesses though I think some of the ascenders and descenders may turn up missing.

Oh hell yeah we could put together a hell of crew just from the AS members here. Who is not going to accept a bid when we show up with a chainsaw in 1 hand and an M4 in the other.

Being dope on a rope while someone is shooting at you doesn't sound fun to me man. ...and along similar lines, being paid $60,000 per year to get shot at by some dude who you think has an 8th ounce of reefer in his apartment doesn't sound like much of a career to me man.

60k doesnt sound good to me either. I havent made less then 90k a year in my cop job in 5 years. Ah who am I kidding I would probably do it for 60k if Ct was nt so damn expensive to live in. But I am cut from a different clothe then most. Which brings up another favorate quote of mine.

Those that have been there know what I am talking about those that haven't will never know

yes I still work as a Police Sgt full time. But I can retire in 4 years so I wanted to be up and running and well established by then, so I work my ass off at tree work as much as I can

Hartford's a pretty nasty area to be a copper in I imagine, I gotta give ya that much (all kidding aside). I've heard of fireman crossovers into the tree scene, never a cop though. Interesting. Anyways, keep that filth in line over there SOM! Whoop, Whoop! lol.

That's cool man. So what type of weapon do you carry? I peg you as a 1911 type...definitely not a Glock man.

It was actually much worse when I got hired but its still bad. I think the crossover came more from prior service background and spending a lot of time in harnesses high up off the ground. Seemed I was up there a lot dangling from a big rope or from a hole bunch of little ones attached to a big peace of semi porous nylon either way I developed an attachment to having a nut crusher around my waist

lol you got that right no glocks for me. Currently S&W M&P 45 Cal (junk but forced by Pd) but will be switching back to 1911 soon (tactical rail gun custom) I own a personal 1911 custom and love them.

I have a customized Springfield 1911 full-sized "loaded model" stainless. I had it bead blasted with a nice satin finish, I hate that shiny flasy ####. Had the trigger set at a crisp 4.5 lbs, the front strap checkered, and the throat polished and everything de-burred. Springfield's custom shop is AWESOME, they are top rate. I don't have a pic rail on mine but I'm not into the "tacticool" crap either
