Let’s see your fall colors

This is about the best view in my area. Not a lot of natural beauty here as it's mostly trees that go green to brown with a few simple yellows in them. This is a neighbor's place full of 20-30 year old planted maple trees.

That gets the process going, yes.

But in reality you can have green leaves everywhere and within 48 hours of a cold snap the leaves completely change color.

Last weekend (Oct 6-8) my wife and I drove from NJ to near Lake George NY and rented a place just to see the peak colors. Not only were the colors not peaking, it was rainy and foggy all weekend. Hummpf.

It rained but had a nice drive through northwestern Wisconsin this morning.

Rainy day here too, but still got some wood stacked. Decent colors along the easement, though they seem pretty late this year.

I love those 32" lengths. They do get heavy, especially before they're split, but they save a lot of handling. Generally I try to cut only softwood at that length to keep the weight down, but sometimes I'll cut ash or oak that long if it's under 10". Any more than that and they're too hefty. That wood is destined for the syrup evaporator, which runs better on softwood anyway. Really though it's much faster to buck logs, split rounds, stack a pallet, and feed the cooker when all the wood is that long. Makes putting up 10 cords for that thing much less daunting.

Northern central NY is just coming into peak colors. I want to take a ride out into Stanton land with my bike and enjoy it before it's gone. I have a lot of things planned this month so not sure I will have the chance. No hills in my area so kinda hard to get any really good shots. Will see what I can find.

It’s rained for the last 48 hours and now snowing. They originally said up to 8 inches tonight but it’s not appearing to be that bad.

talked to mom about an hour ago and she said 5" in town (Grand Forks) and out at the Air Force Base they had 14.4" officially

Pretty much leafless here. Few trees here and there that are still clinging to them, but those seem to keep them well into winter. They started changing in late August. It's almost winter here, expecting snow anyday.
Has been fairly warm all considering though, some years it's already snowed by now and there's several inches by Holloween.

We were supposed to get 8”, luckily only about 4 accumulated. One car in the ditch overnight on the way to town prior to the plow coming through.




Wife heated the sauna up to 220 this afternoon and two of the boys took a cold plunge between steam sessions.
