My "Not so Cheap" Lightning arrived from Germany on Tues. Had some initial problems getting the starter to engage but I fiddled and it seems fine for now. It seems to have good compression, and today, after sharpening the "Stihl" chain, she fired on 1/2 a pull cold. Put it into some 20" Oak, and couldn't stall it. Runs alot stronger than what I expected. I really would appreciate any leads for the "Red Cap" or "Top Plate" to give it better overall appearance. The saw is very clean and the carb looks "Freshly Rebuilt". Thanks Sedanman for the tip. Here is a couple of pics. (don't know what caused the ring on the muffler. Sorry for the long post! Mike

What is it you are looking for ? It appears to be complete. The top plate has pulled through. Are you wanting a new plastic cover or top plate ? Is this the one the ebay seller in Germany said was made by another company than Stihl ?

Bill

Yes Bill, that is what I am looking for. Is it for sale? This saw was on the German Ebay site and the description was in German. Apparently belonged to the seller's 91 year old father.

Stihl Contra (Lightning in the USA)

Hi Jensen 32000,

great that the saw made it safely into the USA. It looks great and the top Logos:

Contra (that is the original name of the saw from Germany)
Stihl

would make the saw complete.

Let me know your address and I will see what I can do for you !

Mike, would you share how the transaction from Germany worked: freight cost, how you paid, delivery time, how you overcame the language difference?

I'm looking for a Stihl Blk for my collection. I saw one available on the Germany e-may site some time ago. rick shelton,wa

Jensen 32000, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions regarding cost of shipping etc.

I would have guessed shipping cost from Germany to be a little higher. Maybe some day, I'll find my Stihl Blk. Thanks again, rick

There is a BLK on German ebay right now. I emailed the guy in English but I doubt he could understand it.

I might have a top cover assembly. Not sure. I got 1700lbs of nosstihl parts in today. needs to be dug through but who knows.

Bill, if he makes like he doesn't understand it that likely means he just doesn't want to "talk" to you.  Unless maybe he's much over 40 and never had to take English classes in school, that is.  That's what I've been led to believe by some in-laws from that part of the world at any rate.

BillG, Go to the babelfish link and compose you e-mail in english then transalte it to german. Cut-and -paste the german text into an e-mail and try again. I have a contact in germany that speaks no english, we communicate through babelfish, we both realize the translations are a little rough but they work.

I emailed him using babelfish. I have not heard back from him. I notice all sellers of items I am interested in state German shipping only. I guess they do not want to mess with the international shipping.
