thanks it was in the news yesterday it was making me nuts to post a old story tom:rockn:

I was just curious about the dates. I haven't watched the news in awhile. To much #### like this on the news, gets my day off to a bad start, think about killing mother####ers.

If the trees are that important I would replant them if feasible. Might be worth a try. They have transplanted some very large trees on "This Old House".

Texas had this problem back in 1989, they were able to save the tree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_Oak_(Austin,_Texas)

Homeland Security is now involved for possible ecoterrorism and possible contamination of the ground water system.

My bet is that, if convicted, this guy will never see the light of day again.

My thought exactally. It would really not be 'that' difficult to remove all of the soil with air excavation and replace with clean soil. The question is how much has already been absorbed into the trees. I assume the activitate charcoal they are putting in the soil is intended in part to draw some of that out as well as neutralize it in the soil. Curiosity got the best of me, and I e-mail Auburn last night to ask that question (why not replace soil). I'll post back if I hear anything. They have both horticultural and forestry departments, so it is pretty safe to assume they know what they are doing...

I agree, screw the charcol ( which Dow recomended) and hog out that dirt. I was wondering what kind of arborists they had down there. I would have done that immediatley then flushed it with water which would be sucked up by a vaccum truck.

They said something about how they were up to 2500 in bills so far but 25,000 seems more like it. I don't think they are trying very hard but maybe its because its to late which is probably the case.

You would use an AirKnife or Air Spade to loosen the soil (without damaging the root system) then you have to get rid of it. There are a few choices for that:
1) Blow it away and shovel up (least desirable)
2) Suck it up
2a) AirKnife also makes an AirVac that uses the same compressor to create vacuum.
2b) Use a "vactor" type of thing that the street department uses (this would be ideal as they really suck)

I suppose you could also flush with water and use the vactor to remove the soil. This would mean a LOT more volume to suck up.

this world is going to hell and its on the express lane. And to think this guy is a retired state trooper...

Perhaps this guy was in Texas back then?

While the 62-year-old former Texas state trooper bragged about the incident, he told police he didn't actually spread the herbicide, according to the affidavit.

As far as "I phoned in a confession describing the crime in detail, but I didn't do the crime itself" goes, all I can say is "You're the one, unless you can prove who else did it". What a douche.

I am located in Alabama and have family that are graduates of Auburn. They have a 1st class foresty and horticulture program, and if it can be done - they can and will do it. The rivalry between these two schools is insane and often gets way out of hand.

Punishment for this offense should be a sentence to an oxygen deprived room for a week. Just enough to live, but not enough to breath comfortably. Constantly gasping for air. Sounds fair to me.
