I don't know what it is (and don't care):greenchainsaw: but I know I can cut it down.....
Hard to tell by pictures. What did the leaves look like.
white or burr oak---no snow down there??? send you some-----
it is not locust, I have just cut up some locust next to this tree, and there is a big difference. there is a smell to it and it does not stink at all but actually smells good in away. It grows straight and tall with hardly any brush. it has thorns on the new growth but those thorns turn into branches. No thorns what so ever on the trunk. the bark is thick not thin like locust bark.

the more I think about it, the honey locust is what has thorns on it. The black locust doesnt have thorns on it right. And this stuff is sprouting out of the ground like a weed, that is what the land owner is telling me, and I can see that. maybe it is black locust.

Black Locust has a very thick and rugged bark...Thorns on the small branches...Usually not a lot of limbs, more small branches...Just took pictures of the two pieces I have left at the house...Came off the fence row I mentioned earlier, trying to weed out the bad first, so they are not the best ones to take pictures of...
