I'm currently logging a boundry of timber that contains quite a bit of second growth white pine in the 24''-40'' range and most of it is on fairly steep ground.

Have I ever mentioned that I HATE logging through mountain laural?

This particular tree suffered a lighting strike some time back and had rot on one face, fortunatly I was able to log it in just in time for it to still be usable.

My 066G really shovels the chips out even with a 36'' bar burried in wood.

When we get two inches in three hours??? YUP!!! The hillsides around here turn into a slip slide:eek: We've had soooooo much rain lately that we've had mudslides to the tune of $1.4 million in damage to the roads in my county according to the local paper. Ben if I could set the temp outside at 55-60 degrees and leave it there I would!LOL:Monkey:

Hi Ryan great pics, it looks like you're having fun.
As far as the 088 goes it actually outcut a bone stock EHP 346 today with .325 in 5" wood. lol
Anywho, here's a vid., circa 1999. It's a 32" Rock Maple.

I see nobody gave you guff for wearing that shiny new hat at any rate, but where the hell's all your other PPE?

:-)

That pine in picture is a decent size is it worth anything it looks kinda crooked.

Steep ground is when you have to have one leg extended and the other knealing on the ground and hope the rock your foot of the extended leg doesn't let go. Steep ground is when you can't walk around a tree fully and you only can work on the back and either side.

When it rains here it just turns miserable the ground doesn't go mushy the rocks do get slippery. Usually a guy gets soaked to the undies and it gets cold. Its too hard to climb around when your soaking wet it makes the fallers pants 30lbs heavier.
I don't like working in the rain either if I have to put on the rain gear and rubber boots and sweat to death :D

The worst part when its raining is your climbing down a steep bank or hill and you step on a wet surface root or a old chunk of wood with no bark. Its slippyer than snot so either you fall backwards or you do the splits and your wet gaunch rides up your crack

Pacific, I couldn't have said that any better........Steep ground is when you have to take your buddy to the woods with you to tie you off and let you down over the bank with a rope..........steep ground is hoping those trees will find the bottom and the tops will be broke out so you dont have to shimmy down and top it yourself..........steep ground is steep..........Wade

New hat??? You just didn't look at it up close!:p That hat is all but nasty! As for the PPE I'm wearing ear plugs its obvious that I wear glasses and I don't normally wear chaps as they constanly get caught on stuff around you're feet when you're trying to get away from the tree. I normally do wear chainsaw pants when it gets cold out, I've been thinking about trying the saw protection that you wear on the inside of your pants but just haven't ordered them yet.

As for the steep ground that tree was on a very nice flat spot on top of a ridge but the rest of the ground is NASTY!!! I have to cut myself tunels through the laurel because it is SO thick:angry: I HATE that crap!!! I'll see if I can find some time to take some picks of the steep stuff this week. Right now I am behind because of rain so I'm trying to get caught up.
