Hello all. Hoping this thread is in the correct forum. I'm a small landscaper in Northern Illinois (mostly DuPage, Kendall, Kane, & Will counties), and part of a new job this spring involves taking down a black walnut tree in a back yard in Downers Grove, IL. It's a healthy tree, I'm estimating 18" or so trunk, but the homeowner has a son who has been recently determined to be pretty allergic to walnuts, so the tree must go. I'm linking a few pictures below. The walnut to be removed is the tree next to the plastic kids' playset, and gives some perspective of its size.
The tree has an every-so-slight (but beneficial) lean in the direction it needs to go, no obstacles surrounding it other than a fence on the opposite side of the lean and some tree branches of other trees 20 feet away or so. I do have a stump grinder, chainsaws, and some people interested in the trunk and remaining firewood, so I would be doing the clean-up myself.
I'm not insured for felling trees, and have grown too conservative to take on that risk - even if it appears to be an easy job. If it were my yard, the tree would be gone already, but it's somebody else's yard, so I need to sub this out. I'm just looking for an idea of cost to have it felled by an insured pro, and I figure this is a great site to locate one. The homeowner is a friend of mine, so I'm not looking to mark up the cost of having the tree felled.
Any ideas on how to proceed with this sub-contract? Anyone interested?
