I could probably go back and edit my earlier post, but I don't have any idea what kind of fat finger, auto-correct, failure to proofread combination of errors came out as "All a machete needs to keep it running good laugh a file... "

You need a file; keep the machete sharp.

With a little more time to think, and wandering around Lowe's, for the pointy stubs, a mattock/pick/axe type tool to grub them out would get rid of them, but adds to what you have to carry around. Maybe the lighter weight style would be adequate. But Lowe's had some with oak handles. I was thinking, "doesn't oak tend to be a little splintery?" I picked up another one, and sure enough, I got a splinter.

Over 30 years ago I put a trail thru my woods, close to a quarter mile, and I used a Stihl brush cutter and chainsaw for the larger stuff. Run the mower on my garden tractor a few times per summer and it keeps the trail open.
