Ya know, there has been a lot of discussion in this and other Mac threads lately about matching Mac yellow. Has anyone thought to ask if Mac paint was still available? It is part #102449 .... just thinkin' .... :msp_rolleyes:

EDIT: Nope, it isn't ... :(

Where the he** is ProMac610 / Chris J / Thieroff when I need some support here?

I'm gettin closer to working on the SP81 and am even considering poder coat ... yes, really. But there is more work there that just the $$ outlay (which is really not so bad) .... still weighing it ...

You have me confused  with some other Chris J., I don't have the steady hands or patience to paint a chainsaw :msp_blushing:.

Haha, I've been trying to tell you to keep em ugly and run em hard but you aren't of the same mentality that I am Mr. J. Then again I'm not much of a perfectionist. Never have been if they run good I let em alone.

Tried painting a saw once, with somewhat mixed result but am a firm believer in letting them wear their true colors.

Mitch, that parts saw looks familiar!

I am with you on that, I will only paint saws with a lot of corrosion. Otherwise I like that battle scars, plus if it already looks beaten I dont feel bad about using it.

Looks good Stinkbait. Cant wait to see it finished.

Stinkbait -
I looked at your pix again. I noticed that the metal tag was removed from carb box?

I didn't remove the tag, but I did paint over it because the tag doesn't have the correct number for a 10-10S, but this saw definitely has the 10-10S engine, as shown in the previous pics.

You may have seen that one before. :msp_wink:

For those of you that were talking about the color I chose, I took a couple of pics with the finished 10-10S tank beside two of my better looking mac with the original paint.

That looks real good, you did a real good job with the painting. From here it looks real smooth, like it was from the factory.

Looks really good! Your color looks terrific next to the one that has a bit of 'sun fade' .... At this point I can only aspire to doing such quality work!

Off the subject: I knew your 125C was pretty but I always thought you had painted it. I don't know the story behind it but it must have been quite a find for you. Ron

Nice pictures Mitchell. You always do good work and its nice to see it.

Thanks! I try really hard. Sometimes I have trouble with my patience though. I have actually put a couple of nicks in the fresh paint already from getting a little figity.

It did turn out really smooth. That's one of the things that I love about the valspar enamel. I only put 5 coats on the saw, but the more you put the smoother it gets.

Thanks! It is really close to the 700. The 125 is actually a shade darker.

I got the 125 from my uncle for free. He told me that he had a big tree to cut down and he went and talked to a logger that sold him the 125. That was back in the 70s. After my uncle used it to cut up the big tree he retired it in his shed until handing it over to me. It is all original with 185psi compression.

I have always admired it. I hope you keep it in your family. Ron

Well here is what she looks like this morning. Should have her done today. Just have to finish the clutch cover.

I don't have near the number of MACs that many here have but I can say from my small collection that the factory color varies. IMHO if you want a real pretty saw you have to paint the whole thing. If you want an authentic restoration you need to find an unmolested part of the same vintage and model and match that color. Personally I like Stinkbait's choice. Some will immediately say without even looking that John Deere yellow is too yellow. My 1-60 is more yellow than John Deere Yellow. My newer MACs have more orange in the color. For less than $15 you can buy 3 to 4 different brands. Test them and pick the one you like. Without checking I'm almost positive that I settled on Valspar for my 8200 - my first and probably last chainsaw paint job (I just don't have the touch or patience to spray paint well). Ron

Just for the record, Homelite's are the same way: several different shades of red/orange. Just pick the color that you like best or pick the one that is most convenient for you. I used regular Rustoleum Yellow on my 7-10 resto, and the color match was very close to the stock paint. The older MAC's from the late fifties/ early sixties have the more sunburst yellow coloring to them. Maybe it is because the original color has faded with age.
