Listed a Mac 15 in Trading post folks, just don't need it.

So, I got my Caber rings from Greece for my 1-42 and was wondering if there was anything in particular to watch out for? These should restore the comp back towards factory setting. I'll put in a request for a shop manual in the other thread.

Hi Again Mark,

A little confused as my Mac has both 1-42 and 1-45 stamped on the bottom and Serial # C-4385.

So have they taken an existing 1-42 and built it to 1-45 spec?

A lot of McCulloch saws have one number stamped through and a second one added. I have a 300 with 650 listed first and struck through with a line. I have seen some with three sets of numbers.

The basic block is the same a quite a few different saws and sometimes at the factory they would change their minds in the middle of a run and build some different models. I think sometimes they just collected all the parts they had laying around and assembled what ever saws they could from the left overs then stamped them accordingly.

A true 1-45 has thin rings. I don't know if there were other differences in the porting or not. With the same block. sometime you will find all three exhaust ports opened up, and other "detuned" models will have only two ports open.

Thick rings are 55123, thin rings are 48691.

Well just to be different mine has a large 1 followed by two dashes, like an equal sign, followed by small 42 and 45 one above the other. Neither crossed out. The AF cover is def 1-42 but could have been added later. The rings are thick, or at least the same size as I justi got from Greece, #55123. Also the third exhaust port has not been opened..

It has been quiet. I've only been lurking lately and not posting much. I've got a new job, building a new house since last September, and got a another boy on the way.

I've had the saws out several times but I've been too busy to take pics. I did manage to get a couple of the white oak I milled with a Double Eagle 80.

I'll have some more pics tomorrow. It's the outdoor fireplace mantle. I wish I had taken videos while cutting. Maybe next time.

hi guys just got my promac610 back together. bought it about 15 yrs ago from a friend that needed money.only ran it a few times and put it on the shelf. i know its not an old saw but old to me.mostly cosmetic clean up but did pull the muffler to look at the p&c.looked good. put the new plug and air filter on and a little fuel and a squirt and it fired right up. man is that thing loud. can anyone tell me what size bolt/screw is used to hold the chainbrake on the left hand side. thanks

I have a 10-10 who's gas cap is missing all the tank vent parts. Gas running out the top. Hole in the center of the cap with a hex shaped pocket underneath. Any suggestions on how to improvise a tank vent that won't leak?

The easiest thing would be to find a replacement cap.

Sometime you can find them for $10 or less. It just takes a while. Another option is to buy a parts saw for around $25 and then you'll have the cap plus many other parts.

have only run the saw a max of 5 minutes. lots of oil coming out the exhaust. rings or do i have a bigger problem?

What mix are you running? Is it tuned way rich?

acutally put some 50:1 stihl mix in instead of 40:1. set the screws at recomended settings .the saw seems to run fine when i put it in a piece of wood. idle is just about perfect.

If it cuts good in wood and doesn't surge at idle, then your comp is fine and no leaks. I sold mine about a month ago, but i do remember it smoking a little more than some. Maybe due to having just a piece of screen over the exhaust port. Lol

yeah it does smoke a bit but i thought that might have been from sitting so long. seems to idle fine but i check it out some more. thanks.
