Was just gifted a super 6-10 automatic saw from gramps this Christmas and it needs a new muffler. Here is the one that's on it. What are my options for replacement or does anyone know where I can find this particular muffler. Thanks!

Picked up this beauty for $80 Saturday. It came with what looks to be a 36" original bar. Supposedly the seller had it running but I don't see proof of that. The recoil is missing a few parts but turning the flywheel by hand it feels good. Took the muffler off and the cylinder/piston look good. I think it was a decent buy. I figured it would have the model stamped on the bottom of the case like most macs as I wanted to confirm it was truly a 77. However I couldn't find any stamping. Did the older, pre 1960 saws not have that? I have several old mcculloch with original bars but this is the first bar Ive seen with two geese printed in the log as well. Looks very neat!

The gear box oil has been drained. I have some old cans of mcculloch gear case oil but what oil do you guys pout in your gear drive saws?

Ive also got a lead on a mac 660. Non running. Whats a fair asking price for this saw? The seller wants $100 I offered $50 havent heard back.

Thanks

On the 660, those saws fo not seem to be all that common although not rare either. It depends on exterior condition, how the piston looks, and is it complete. Usually $100 - $200 is about fair. $50 is really good. Pictures please.

Cool find, I have two 47's and one of them has that same chrome guard over the flywheel screen. I've been meaning to post a pic of it,and ask the experts here, what the meaning of that might be. I was pretty sure it's original. Seeing yours now, confirms that. Of course the guru's on here have seen lots of them.

PF - Any muffler from the 4-10, 5-10, 6-10, 7-10, PM700, SP 70, CP 70, etc. will work.

Crazy - looks like a 77, show a photo of the carburetor for comparison. The goose logo was typical on the older stuff. My 77 has that same hockey mask flywheel guard.

SF - I paid $75 each for two 660s, one was capable of running, the other needs serious work.

I acquired a Timber Bear the other day. Seems to run pretty well other than a broken choke pull. I was looking at the IPL for these, and it looks like two plastic rods that meet at a right angle under the air filter cover. Seems like a pretty poor design and replacement parts don't seem easy to come by.

I was wondering if anyone came up with an alternative to this...maybe a hardware store fix that's a little more stout than stock parts ? If anyone has any creative fixes, I'd love to hear them.

600 Series including the 605, 610, 650, 655, Timber Bear 3.7, Eager Beaver 3.4, PM5700, Silver Eagle 3.4 plus a Montgomery Wards and Craftsman version and probably more. Should be possible to find one on e-bay or send me a PM. Once you work the choke a few times with the AD cover off you will get the hang of working it without breaking the rod.

Parts are so plentiful I don't know of anyone coming up with an alternative.

Not a 10 Series saw (-10 model).

Help with Mcculloch 200 starter.

I reviewed the shop manual on the McCulloch 200 and it shows a retaining pin on the back side of the starter rope pully that holds the assembly togeather. I removed the starter and found no such pin on it.
I've looked it over and can't find an obvious way to take it apart other than jamming the pully in place and twisting the ratchet off. I was hoping someone could provide some insight before I break something.

Hey Mark, here are some pics of the carb. How are you determining whether or not its 77? What indicators are you looking for to distinguish if its a 77 or something else? Ive looked this saw over and haven't found any stamping for a serial. Where would Mcculloch have put that? Sorry for all the questions Im only trying to educate myself more about macs. Thanks

My gear drive mcculloch collection has been taking off this week. Here is the "660" I picked up. Im not positive it is a 660 though. Compression is good and for $70 I dont think it was a bad deal. It looks like the muffler fell apart at some point. According to arcesinternet the 660 should have had serial numbers as follows:
600115, serial prefix 10, 11 gear ratio 2:1
600120, serial prefix 10, 11, 12, 13 gear ratio 3:1

However this saw has nothing in that format and doesnt have the same look as pictured on acresinternet. Maybe this is a later model? Stamped on one side 62731 and on the other side is 10 1458. My uncle is borrowing my Mcculloch IPL book so I cant compare the serial numbers to other saws in the book. Most older mcculloch I have have the actual model stamped on one side and the serial on the other. Does anyone know when they started/stopped doing that? I know the 10 series had the silver tag in the carb housing. Any help confirming what saw it is would be great. Thanks again

Yep, thats a 660 and a fairly nice looking one. It should have the round muffler like a super 250, 550, cp125, and 797. Easy to find those mufflers. The saw is basically a geardrive super 250. Acres number can be off as mine said 3:1 under the clutch cover on the gearcase. But Acres shows it as a 2:1.

Finally got my pro mac 10-10 in wood today. First time I've ever ran or had one. I like it a lot. Surprising amount of power. Excellent sound. Sort of odd how a great deal of the saw dust manages to get into the cooling fins and eject through the fins. Great saw. Definitely found its way into my starting lineup.image.jpg

I'm hoping someone might be able to help ID one of the Macs I picked up today.
One is a ProMac 55 but the cover on the other is missing and I'm not sure where to look for a label or stamp.
