A few of the bigger McCulloch saws that I have needed to be much richer than you expect to get enough fuel in the cut. I don't know if they just had some carburetor issues (stiff diaphragms, metering lever too low, etc.) or if they really needed that much more fuel.

That's just it, this saw acts like it wants less fuel in the cut. The video I posted earlier clearly shows the fourstroke unloaded and clearing up in the cut but the saw is way down on power, if I tweak the screw leaner while under cutting load it really starts to come alive but I loose the fourstroke and in afraid of it burning up.

My IPL for the PM650 shows Champion RDJ6H as the spark plug it needs. Even the Googles on the interwebs can't find a cross. Does anyone know what spark plug is correct that can actually be found?

My 2008 NGK book shows Pro plug BM6FY fits Pro Mac 605, 610, 650 and 690. Had a Pro Mac 800 follow me home today, the chain "might" be the original.
thanks!

Just a trivia question for the Mac gurus. Was there a logical reason for the right hand start that Mac used on some of their saws? I am going to pick up a 440 tomorrow, will be my first RH start Mac. Just thought it odd because I think this was made on the same time frame as my 380 which is conventional LH start. I know they did it for a while all the way up to the ten series saws.

Just got a 3.7 Eager Beaver. I may just call it a PM610 cuz E.B. makes me think of the Mini Mac genre and I get queasy.
Is the mfg date somewhere in the plate data?

doug - There is no date code for McCulloch model/serial numbers. I have one IPL dated 1987 that specifically lists he Eager Beaver 3.7 along with the PM610 and others.

2broke - I think McCulloch hard a hard time giving up the tried and true...and RH starter had worked quite successfully for many years. RH start saws are easiest to handle if you can lay them over a log, then holding the throttle and choke (where equipped) with you left hand actually feels very natural while pulling with your right hand.

Literally put gas in it and it's a runner. The primer on the flatback even works. Manual oiler works well, jury is still out on the auto oiler.

Well I was with the wife garage saleing this weekend and found a sp70 with the chain brake that I needed with a new 20in bar and chain for $25 the guy cut the coil wire and made a mess of the recoil cover pulled that off and the flywheel is all busted up t least I got my chain brake that works and a few spare bits to keep on hand. Had a cousin drop off to baby macs the other day for free not sure whAt to do with them a 2.0 and a 35
