McCulloch Chain Saws

For a novice in vintage chainsaws like myself, would y'all mind sharing where y'all search and find these saws for sale? I search ebay and craigslist but there just isn't any older saws circulating done here in south Texas. Maybe I'm just not looking int the right places. I see how y'all come across these saws and they are some jewels, I myself would love the opportunity to own and restore some of these vintage saws.

P.S. I am restoring the 10-10 right now, but I think we can all agree that the 10-10 is one of the most prolific saws McCulloch ever made so they are all over the place for sale.

I’ve recently started a home for unwanted or abandoned McCullochs.

If needed, I’ll be glad to take that SP125 off your hands.

Brings up the question of "how recently", AND, I must tell you that I lived in Tallahassee for a few years but am back in my native Northwest. I still have peeps and misc. road trash just waiting for a call from the Juice. Thomasville and Cairo are sunominios (SP) with bikers, beer, and babes. Don't recall chainsaws. that was a different life and time. And then I must ask " only 125's.. Must get politically correct on this and take in a percentile of the wood chip deprived, and those saws that have had a tough upbringing. Social injustice so to speak.. Affermitive action. And the foreign exchange program.. So we send ol MAC from L. A. to Sweden and the Sweeds ship back a Stihl. How you think that "go fast", High rev'en tike will feel staring up to the heavens under a big ole redwood. These questions must be addressed.. (This was kinda fun) but alas, Monday morning and off to the salt mines.. Cheers. K

I rode my dresser across Texas about 20 years ago.as I recall a person would rather have a glass of water or cold beer (lonestar) and not a chainsaw. And a 10-10 was plenty of saw for the timber that was there. BUT, Texas big state, am I'm teasing some. Met the nicest folks there. All 10 series saws are collectable, the older ones more so, and a person starts with what's available, and over time moves up and out, expands horizons, and then after a decent run of the cards checks into a 30 day chainsaw collectors Re-hab facility. There are several around the U. S. and Canada. You can order pamphlets.. It's called the "10 pulls and prime" program. We meet every other weekend till fall hits and then it's every weekend after that. We want everyone to have enough cords to get through the snow months, with nothing to do but stare at the wife and dicker with the saw. Or is it the other way around. Within the last year: PM850 will be lonely for a bit.

As far as only 125s, not necessarily: as long as the Wow factor is there. [emoji6]

Taking a break to give my back a rest. I pulled the Mac 15 down and pulled the plug, it's so bright out I'm not sure if I'm getting a spark. I think I can hear it cracking. When I go back out I'm going to put a drop down the plug hole and give it a snatch, Joe.

Not sure what you are looking for, but the way I found mine were through simple persistent and consistent looking. I was blessed to be looking when it was easy to search CL nationwide. I got most of my saws from far away. Before shipping rates got crazy, it wasn’t too difficult to talk folks into shipping if you paid the asking price plus sent them a box with packing materials so all they had to do was pack and drop off for shipment. Of course, you have to size folks up over the phone, send them money and trust you get a saw back. Big old MACs are scarce as hens teeth in my area, but persistence pays off - found a running PM850 within 50 miles for $45. Also found a SP125C with a pristine cylinder in Florida of all places while on vacation a few years ago. Just takes a few minutes every day to check CL and eBay. I haven’t mastered Letgo but have seen some deals there. I have also bought a few right here on AS. Just treat the sellers like you want to me treated and you will be surprised how well most will treat you. Sometimes folks are open to sell if asked but don’t know what their saw is worth. I don’t hestitate to tell them what I think they can get even though higher than what I would pay. Many have taken my price rather than hold out for more or fool with either eBay or CL. Being honest with folks and trusting them to be honest is about the only way I know you can buy saws long distance on CL. Even at that you are gambling so you need to prepare yourself for those purchases that don’t meet your expectations - hopefully they will be few and offset by those that exceed your expectations.

Fired up my Sp80 yesterday. Man hard to keep it running. Flooding it seems. Any tips fellas?

Start by rebuilding the carby.

...and make sure the metering lever is adjusted correctly and that the needle actually seats - pressure check the carburetor when you think you are finished.

I collect Mcculloch chainsaws of all sizes and shapes until the J.F. generation. No pictures just a lot of saws. Mini-Macs - 125s, any of them. Do not find many around here but when I do I usually try and buy them. Most of my smaller Stihls, Pioneers and Homelites will go away soon to make more room for Mccullochs.

Had a good run of luck finding 1-10 and 10-10 series saws early this year and then no more Macs to be found again. It gives me something to look for.

Hi all,

I am wanting to build myself a Kart saw this summer, been looking for a 101 motor but am confused by all of the variations they offered. From what I have read most people opt for the 101b version. Is that because it was the latest revision from McCulloch or is there other reasoning behind it? Does anyone know what the differences are between all of the different variations?

Wikipedia states they started making them in 1967 with the standard MC-101 then ended in 1974 with the MC-101b but it also states there were 5 other variations introduced in different years:
101a
101aa
101c
101d
and 101m/c

Maybe someone can educate me on the differences and what to look for?

When pressure testing a carb do you fellas notice it takes quite a bit to push through the pump checks?
I now keep old carb kit pump diaphragm and use it.
