The SP125 piston that's on eBay as of right now is .020" oversize, and the standard kart piston won't work with the stock connecting rod.

Wise to wait for the correct piston. You don’t want to change rods. Several of us have experienced disaster with our kart saws due to pressed wrist pin walking. Ron

Hey guys i got my grandpas old Mac 1-70 rebuilt and put back together. i replaced the piston, rings, wrist pin, crank seals, points and rebuilt the carb along with a good cleaning down to the individual components and rehoned the cylinder. I replaced the head gasket with a thinner Kart head gasket to bump up the squish. it has a 7/16 sprocket on it currently and want to change that out to a 3/8. i also want to change the old 24 bar to something like a 28. is there any good replacement bar that can be modified to work like the oregon D176? or should i just look for a NOS or used 30"?

Good job on the rebuild. Is the 24inch still Ok? If it's hard nose just use it. 24 is still lots of bar and your prob not going to use it as a felling saw. Unless you have lots of bigger wood to cut with it. I'm a school boy when it comes to these old large frame macs but from the learning I've done youl need to make up some spacers to run a modern skinny bar. No big deal really

Yes the o
Also forgot to say that its very special to have your grandfather's saw running must be a great feeling.
Yes the old bar is still in good shape so I could still use it just wanted to go bigger to utilize the 87cc’s. I won’t use it much at all other than really big stuff or for fun. I have a 441mag,034s, 028wb and 260 pro that get used for most stuff. Just looking to find a niche for the old Mac. It sounds great and is really d*mn loud but makes it that much cooler! I could machine spacers and mill out another bar to work I guess if needed. Thanks

Just buy one of these. I have two of them. It is .050 so it will run 3/8 chain and it will bolt right on with no spacers. It is advertised as 34" but they actually measure 32" when mounted.

Well I put the 1-52 on the back burner for now pending funds to buy another fuel tank.
I brought the 1-86 back to the front and began reassembly and preparation for paint. The idler gear that Mark sent me would not work and the bracket was different. It had the same number of teeth but was a courser pitch than what was in there. So I went ahead and welded the original bracket back together. Should hold up just fine. The saw is about 80% reassembled and ready for a primer coat. Hopefully I will be able to do that tomorrow night. I will post some pics after primer.
Thanks all.
I got the 1-86 in primer tonight. I don't think I'm gonna be happy with how this paint job turns out. I'm kicking myself for not spending time on body work. Oh well, it will be a runner anyway.

Cool mate i think the big stihl bar has the right slot if i remember right. I've never payed to much attention to that big mac stuff as I only have 10 series saws. But sounds like any bar will be fine if you have a mill handy it is only steel after all. It will pull a pritty big bar so fair enough for wanting too if you have the wood for it. Get your self a big 10 series and you won't need the 441 any more haha

i would like to get a 10-series. i never knew much about old Macs until i started researching after deciding to get this one running. I would like to 10 series modern saw, like the pro Mac 700 (i believe its a 10 series) which is around the same cc's. are there other 10 series saws in the 60+CC's other than the 7-10, 6xx,7xx,8xx?

SP80, SP81, SP81e, DE80 and PM8200. Possibly some offshore designations too.

Ron

1-10 thru 3-10, 10-10 models = 54 cc
PM55, 555, 570, 10-10S models = 57 cc
PM60, SP60 = 60 cc
4-10, 5-10, 6-10, 7-10, PM700, CP/SP70 = 70 cc
SP80/81/81E/PM850, PM800/805, DE80, Super PM850, PM8200 = 82 cc

Did I miss any?

CP80

And I’m pretty sure the Pro Mac 60 is 62cc. That is probably the same as the super pro 60.

The pro mac 60 is one chainsaw that I wish I never got rid of. I really liked it. It was so strong it felt like my 70cc versions I had at the time.

what is it about the 10 series saws that makes them so attractive? i know they have a different porting but is it that they create more torque the pull the chain but they dont quite rev like a 441/460? or can they rev high as well?

I think it’s just the noise
