Holy cow! That's a lotta saws in one score!
I went to this guys place expecting 2 or 3.... haha

Thanks Mark!
What’s the story with the fuel cap leaking fuel? Is there a duckbill under the cap?
Mac made 2 different 650's.The 1st one was made in the early 60's & was 87cc.The later one was made along with the 610's & is 60cc.How many cc's is a 650? I cant find much info on them.
So mine vents through a tiny pinhole in the cap. But it leaks pretty well too!Get this... Mini Macs, SP 40s, the fuel tanks do not have a vented cap, they are vented through a pinhole in the tank just next to the cap. They came with a felt collar around the tank opening to limit fuel running out.
Here is a picture of one of my mini mac tanks with a sewing pin stuck in the vent hole:
If you flip them upside down, fuel just dribbles out. For YEARS I didn't know how a Mini Mac tank vented....

Kinda sounds like my adventures.I went to the local saw shop back in Feb.looking to buy a couple Homie SEZ's for parts & ended up buying a truckload of 47 saws. They came out to $4.25 ea.& in that truckload was a Mac Super 6-10A that I just finished up on,& a Double Eagle 80 that's getting closer to the workbench.Lol I also got a near mint Eager Beaverr 2.0 (100 series) that was marked DOA.Come to find out it just needed a new spark plug.I went to this guys place expecting 2 or 3.... haha

Mini Macs love to leak gas and oil...its what they do best. I could never understand why my mini Macs would leak gas if they were upside-down, i just assumed the caps didn't seal tight by design, to allow venting. So mine vents through a tiny pinhole in the cap. But it leaks pretty well too!
I wonder if that hole could be drilled out for a duckbill valve? Or if the back pressure of a valve would cause issues?Mini Macs love to leak gas and oil...its what they do best. I'd bet a talented and ambitious person could make several improvements to a Mini Mac. Your idea could certainly be done, the only problem is that you'd also have to drill a hole in the magnesium housing to have clearance for any kind of valve. That pinhole is completely covered by the housing, it vents simply because air can still find it's way past the housing. It's an extremely crude solution, hahaI wonder if that hole could be drilled out for a duckbill valve? Or if the back pressure of a valve would cause issues?
What a haul...hopefully they're mostly just dirty and the internals are clean and not corroded.G'day
So i had a great find this weekend & thought I'd better share a couple of photos with you guys! I've seen guys get these sort of collections before, so it's great that my number came up!
I haven't had a chance to go over everything yet but most seem complete & turn over, so with a bit of shed time I'll hopefully have some runners.

My cap has a tiny pinhole breather versus in the tank. Crazy that they would make two bad designs lol. I guess it’s probably not as big of a problem once you don’t have a full tank of fuel.I wonder if that hole could be drilled out for a duckbill valve? Or if the back pressure of a valve would cause issues?
I'd be interested to see that, is it possible someone added the hole in your cap not knowing about the pinhole in the tank?My cap has a tiny pinhole breather versus in the tank. I can get a pic. The hole is too small to be drilled with any drill bit and it is offset from center.I'd be interested to see that, is it possible someone added the hole in your cap not knowing about the pinhole in the tank?
In any case, it doesn't matter much because these saws don't have a fuel pickup in the tank for running upside down.
Vinny,as for using chips,I guess it's got to the point that we have no other choice. It was just a matter of time before the supply ran out.I'm far from being a purist,I've got a few chips on hand that I've pretty much used for testing coils before I had a multimeter.I've got 2 or 3 saws that were chipped by someone else & they run just fine.I know Bob J.is using chips now too due to the condenser supply running out.
I don't really know which chip to use.I've seen them on eBay that are sold specifically for Homelite SEZ saws that are sold by LRB for $12.I don't really know how they can say that this chip is for this saw & that chip is for that saw.I know the 1st chips that were made were called the ATOM chip & they were color coded.
When you buy a used condenser,or even a new one for that matter off eBay,there's no guarantee they'll be any good. This is something that a lot of perople don't understand - a condenser can go bad from just sitting on a shelf.I bought a NOS condenser for a Remington saw back a couple of months ago & it was no good.I told the seller about it & he sent me another NOS condenser,it too was no good.If you're not stuck on using a legit Mac condenser (e.g. purist), use a homelite condenser. They're plentiful and cheap. There are also a lot of Mac condensers on ebay that are "bundled" in with points off saws people are parting out.
I've used a few chips from LRB (which I believe are just Nova's) and they work well and are fairly cheap. I can't speak to longevity under hard work, but the 10-10 I built for my brother-in-law has held up well under occasional use over the past few years.
