If its like the ones i had leaking its in the front right corner. And in the handle mount. I superglued them. Worked fine. Ive seen jb weld smeared all over the seam. Looks bad but effective. Superglue worked for 2 of them for me. Also, 50/50 on splittibg tanks.

What is $100? The link I shared is a NOS spool for $19, I bought one already.

You must be referring to the upgraded spool kit....who is paying $100 for that??

Lunatics... lunatics with a $100.

Looks good!

It would be cool if I find one of those locally one of these days, since I have a MM 6, 25, 30, 35, and an SP 40, it would round out my collection of small Macs that people love to hate, haha.

I know the feeling of looking for the one you've been after, and never finding it. And it's always the one that'll complete your collection, and finally make you stop hoarding saws. (Yeah right!)
What's real funny, is when you start asking around and people look at you like you're from outer space "what the hell is a mcculloch?"

I know the feeling all too well.Lol I've been told that I have a sickness & I agree wholeheartedly.I tell them it's called CAD.

The PM6 fuel line is an odd little nipple with a flange inside the tank (item 13), it pressers through the filter (item 12) and through the tank with just a little tip poking out to engage the fitting on the carburetor. I have several NOS filters and fuel lines in the attic. Getting the filter in and out of the fuel tank through the little filler hole can be challenging.

Use Red Kote on the tank and be sure to let it cure fully before adding fuel. I like to try and roll it around to coat the whole inside of the tank to minimize any opportunities for corrosion then turn it around several times on each side to be sure the seam is completely covered and sealed.

With all the stuff to dump money into it's my personal opinion that this CAD is The lesser of many evils.
When all the money's gone at least you have something to show for it and hopefully learned something in the pursuit.
I sometimes see people who sell their saws off in the trading thread and its usually just a bunch of saws that they themselves didn't put any blood ,sweat, and tears into.
Building a total wreck into a fire spewing wood slayer is something glorious, I think you either "get it" or you just bought some saws.

I'm with you 100% Ira.My neighbor said to me "we"re going to have a helluva time selling off your saws when you're gone" (referring to my son & himself).I told him that I hope he has as much fun selling them as I did collecting & repairing them.I just wish I'd have gotten into this much sooner in life.

Well... I suppose she turned out a'ight. :)

LRB piston, so we'll see how that goes, but feels good at the moment (granted I've only test fired it thus far). Bead blasted the whole thing and painted it, cleaned up the rest of the misc parts, new seals, and reassembled. Somewhat unfortunately it's rattle can (Rustoleum Farm & Implement with primer and clear coat) so it'll probably look like hell sooner rather than later. It's supposed to tolerate fuel, but won't stand up to a soak (their claim), and of course carb cleaner, acetone, etc. will wreck it. Kind of a double edged sword depending on how you look at it - can easily be retouched with a can from the local hardware or TSC, but not nearly as tough as "real" paint or powdercoat. I would like to get a heavier clear coat on it, but some pieces were having issues with the clear causing wrinkling on an otherwise decent paint job so... I applied cautiously. Common issue from what I've read. I might have to learn how to use an HVLP and automotive paint...

I'm really liking the black jug (high temp black) color scheme though. Would have been better with black on the clutch side lettering, but this project has drug on too long, especially for something I'll sell off... Still undecided on whether or not to put one of those mean azz buckin' spikes from Goinwheelin on. :) Just gotta get it tested out now! Can't in good conscience sell off a saw I haven't run a bit, and it needs a tune.

Very nice. Well done. I gotta ask why ya gunna sell it for?

I will go against the popular opinion here and say that I have painted a couple saws with Rustoleum and as long as it is allowed to fully cure (which can take a month or more [emoji15]) it is very fuel proof even without clear coat.
Now if you paint it, and then go and dump fuel all over it the next day its gonna strip it right off, I've had that experience too lol.
Despite what the can says, the stuff takes forever to truly cure, if you can still smell it, its not cured.

Did you reuse the OEM wrist pin?

I had my 6-10 workhorse out again today cutting on a big ash tree.My son ran the Mac & I ran a Poulan 245A & Homie C7.We've been working on this massive tree for almost 1 1/2 yrs.now.We dropped the tree in April 2019 & whittled away on it when we could. We had to wait for the farmer to get his crops off before we could drive through the field.Today we quartered the rounds & loaded them onto the trailer & took them home.Just to get an idea of the size of the tree, the rounds are about 3 ft.across.This is the 2nd biggest tree I ever cut, about 12 cord of wood.

Good to know (and hear from first hand experience), thanks! It's been curing for a few weeks, but the humidity has just recently broken, so may take a little longer it sounds like... Is it weird if I sniff my saws even if they haven't been painted? :D
The air filter lid gave me a lot of grief for some reason with the clear causing wrinkling. The third time I stripped and primed/painted/cleared it, I did it all in one evening (following the directions for time between coats) and it seemed to work much better than waiting for 48+ hours and then applying clear. The first time I waited like 2 weeks, and everything else seemed to take clear fine, so not sure what that was about with just the lid.

Yes sir! The one that came with it was too loose (just by a hair). Are you asking because you had the same experience?

Thanks! Why is kind of a long story, but the short-ish version is that I never intended to keep it, and I've already got four 7-10 (one to keep, 3 as projects). I've been thinking about stripping and painting one for a while, so when I got this and the stock paint was trashed and mag rot was about to take it, I figured this was my opportunity since I was going to take it apart for repairs anyway.
And... I need to recover some of the money I've been spending on evilbay.

Looks more like a "krypton " special paint job!
Would have been better if they just stripped it down to bare metal and polished it.

"Kal-El's Kustom Saws: Saws That Are So Out Of This World, They'll Make A Superman Out Of You!"

All jokes aside, I like the idea of a bare metal saw.
it'd just be a display piece though.

Just wanted to confirm that it was the same experience as what others had written about.

One of the PNW guys did a strip and polish followed by clear coat on an SP81 if I recall correctly. The magnesium started to fog under the clear coat even so...

I thought it might be bad form to make any negative comments.
