Did you fire up that SP81 with the LBR piston yet? No rush but I'm curious about it.

Ive got one with all the parts except for the flag if you want it.

No, I decided to take tonight off, will rebuild the carb tomorrow night and hopefully report back.

I would rather just find a non-brake clutch cover. Thank you very much though!!

Not too shabby looking for what you call a "scrap heap".

It is in reference to it being built out of my spare parts bin with parts from 3 different saws including a cracked and JB welded oil tank lol. Hopefully it only leaks a lot lol.
I had 2 oil tanks but the other one has the lower AV mount broken off.

Alot of low dollar saws, except for the very early "round" homelite. Basically looks like a scrap pile with 3 good saws.

Your right doesn't look like much. I'm pretty sure this collection of saws is a guy named Andy Walker. If it is he does have quite the pile of NOS parts, a handful of cool 2 man saws and at least 1 797 I believe. He says 100+/- saws, think only a fraction of them are in pics.

? Looks like there are enough 10 series there to pay for the asking price if sold on feebay as running saws. If it were closer I'd take a swing at that - well, with some price haggling.
Hmmm How many saws you want out of that as payment to drive it down to me?

Unrelated: will a 610 clutch cover fit a 10-10? I'm assuming not, but worth asking.

Im gonna say no. The brake flag is too short and will hit the chain. I think it will fit over the muffler though. Cant remember.

81 with a full wrap and a roller starter. Pretty much setup how I wanted now and all the new saw wrinkles ironed out like the AV is spot on too.
Wow am I a happy man. Was a dream saw and still is.
Beat in the rails and dressed up the old oregon bar so it won't do that weird behaviour in the cut now. It will get its Mac 24 back when I get some chain.

The starter came out perfectly.

This handle has a very soft (and nice) but probably fragile foam on it. Its still in the SP style and horizontal holes.
Is this a later replacement handle?

I would say it is, all my SP80/81/60s have a hard rubber handle. The 850s and 800s have the softer foam. Nice setup though! I like the roller starter.

That's what I thought. No complaints though its ummm luxurious lol. Like ummm 3 ply dunny roll. OK will go with soft and nice Starter took an hour so on the dremel and 10 mins to make the pulley.

Fits perfect Ed after Bob wanted every measurement and a part number and a description and a model number of the saw. Haha he's thorough. Love his little invoice that's awesome as old school as it gets. Hope that guy lives to 100

I agree, not very common when compared to chat about 5ci saws. Much less talked about. They are very capable saws though. Smooth runners. Looks like it turned out good.

I've used a silver streak bar on a 10-10s , what mount are you using for yours?

This is an echo mount which I thought was a direct bolt on but it has a wider tail than the Mac bar and I had to mod the adjuster holes to allow oiling.

As much as I am a Stihl fan, these McCulloch saws are really really starting to making a habit of turning up at my place and I LOVE IT. I love the sound they make is almost unlike any other saw out there.
In the last few weeks I have had all these turn up. Just thought I would share it with everyone.

Pull the muffler and inspect your piston before wasting time on anything else. If it's scored, you'll find your problem and a course of action can be established. If it's clean, more diagnosis is obviously in order. But you've at least accomplished something instead of spraying WD-40 at the problem with a hope and a prayer that it miraculously fixes it. My guess is it'll just make a mess.

Hi guys, it's not looking good for my PM700 frankensaw
I finally got around to pulling the muffler and carb last night (lots of lockplates!), and the piston looks terrible, I can't even discern rings!
It has deep scratches down its length.

Piston through exhaust port:



From what I've been able to see through the ports, the cylinder is also quite scratched up, but not as bad as the piston.
I'm planning to tear it down all the way to check the cylinder situation; I've never done this, but suppose it's an opportunity to learn something at least.
