Assuming the parts are original is should be a Super 44. The D-44 had a stamped steel air filter cover like the 77, and the Super 44A versions had an extra grill (hockey mask) over the flywheel screen. It could also be a 1-70.

The model number will be stamped on the bottom of the crankcase. This one happens to be a Super 44A, the 55 is XX'd out and the A is trailing. A Super 44 should have an S44 stamped on the bottom, probably with the 55 XX's out like this one.

Yes it is I'm sorry I'd love to keep it but have bought a very nice 266 and just doing a swap really. I have another real good 1 and a few builders with good cylinders so time to cash it in

I got some more macs run today. Still cutting to do yet. Today i rana tank thru my cp70 and a sp81. Both ran great. The cp70 is very forgiving to operate. Its quite light weight and cuts well. I also ran my sp60 for a spell. Definately different than a 70cc but still did great. Im not sure what ill run tomorrow. Thinking on a cp55 and then some rigid frames. I have a few larger trees to cut up also...might try a 28 on a 70cc.

I've been out of commission for the last 3 weeks due to another back surgery that didn't go quite as planned.I ended up with a compressed sciatic nerve that prevents me from sitting for more than 10 min.
I got one of my non-Mac saws running again after being down for about 4 yrs.Now I'm back to working on the PM55.I tried getting spark on it today,but no dice on that.I'm having trouble locating a cam wiper at a reasonable price - forget Feebay (ridiculous prices).The part # is 54184.I might have to just chip it.

seems like I spent 2 hours this am putting the recoil spring back in. when I did the last MAC, I got it right away. after the 3rd time this morning, I just couldn't hold the spring anymore to get it wound tight enough. I forget about the joint issues until something like this comes up, then remember I'm old and useless. ended up clamping a small pair of needle nose pliers in the wood vice to hold the inner loop. aargh.

I think I recall an image of yours back in the thread with the recoil spring in the background with one zip tie on it. I have found that two zip ties 180 a part make reinstalling the spring way easier. Once the cat is lose so to speak, they are a pain pure and simple. I have successfully used a drill, an anchor screw and zip ties to wind them back. But its not an exact science some times it goes easy, sometimes it just goes lol.
