Sweet pics of your yellow hardware, Bait. Why is the SP125 your fav?

It was my first McCulloch chainsaw, and I got it for free. Plus, it's easy starting and cuts like crazy. It has over 180psi compression cold and looks great. I have been running full skip, chisel, chain on it, but I'm going to order me a full comp, chisel, chain and see if that cuts any faster. I know that it has plenty of power to pull it. Then I would like to get a 3/8" setup for it too in the future, just to see what does truely cut better.

meaning, cut wood with it after sitting for a long time. It cut well for a short time, then it won't start at all. Just wondering what part/problem might be at play here.

It could possibly be anything wrong with it. Worst case scenario, he strait gassed it.

My guess, maybe a dirty fuel filter, or else blocked vacuum or carb passages. That may require a complete teardown. Just have to ask more questions to them.

Looks like it's been toyed with before, that starter handle is unique.

On the bright side, it catches my eye. I haven't seen a picture of one other than just the generic picture on Mike's website. The decal scheme matches my 8200. But it looks to be nothing more than a rebadged and repainted Timber Bear. Pick it up and see how it runs.... If you find you want to drop it then, maybe i'd be interested. ;) Or isn't it in your area?

It isn't really my area. I won't drive down to check it out. If you're interested, have at it.

I was sort of asking that question as a learning exercise - for myself. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can, seeing that I plan on picking up some more Macs in the future.

Good luck hunting down this saw!

OK

I'm good here, it's just a rebadged version of some of mine. I was just trying to tempt you to pick it up, thought you needed a nod to do so.

Welcome to the Mac crowd!

That's a nice PM1000 you have in your pic. Do you have any cutting videos of it?

Thank you!

No, I wish I did though, but I have tons of pictures. SawKing has a video of the same model on his YouTube channel.

It's a virgin in my mind.... I haven't cut with it yet. Still has the original Mac bar and chain. The bar in the avatar is a new 30" Carlton Bush Champ in 3/8 063. I liked the way the white bar looks on it. I'm waiting for a big order of parts for it from the West Coast. The fuel vent system needed replacing. This is my second attempt to get all the parts. The last two orders i've ordered something for the fuel vent, and have gathered maintenance stuff and what not. I also ordered a 3/4 wrap handlebar on the last order. I had a thread with a poll about what handlebar is preferred, so I thought I would find one for this saw. I haven't put the saw in the wood yet. Nor have I used the PM8200, Titan 70, new Timber Bear, one of the PM650's, J-red 490, or Efco. I've ran them all except for the 8200 and the 490. The 8200 needs some parts yet, and the 490 is in town at the repair shop patiently waiting for parts access. Those are all fairly new acquisitions, within this years cutting season. I've been using the Poulan the most lately, as it's comfortable to use. After using it a couple days ago, I think i'm due for its replacement. I thin small trees and mark dead trees in the summer, and tend to cut in fall and winter. Right now i'm doing a lot of brushcutting and cleanup where i'm working. I may find the need to fall a couple big ones with the PM1000 this year, unless I use the 385. I do have a Digital-8 Sony camcorder with a tripod, and a Kodak digital camera that records. I may end up making some videos. I suppose first I need to get some good sawhorses, that way I don't get flack for cutting into the ground, or pinching the bar. I haven't cut much yet, not a seasoned vet whatsoever. But i'm getting to be good at picking up junk, raking up brush, and am pretty handy with the brushcutter. That's my game, right now..... The saw collection is just a hobby until I get this huge grove cleaned up and reap my rewards (burn wood). Still, we have tree lines next to our fields, and then the occasional storm damage tree. But i'm waiting for the day when I can sit back with a cold one and appreciate my work. It's coming along. :)

A little background on my saw experience.....it seems fitting since this is a thread about Mac's! The Poulan was my first saw, bought from Northern Tool on the recommendation from another forum. I wasn't so big on saws or wood, but I wanted to get the farm cleaned up and back in order. My grandpa also had his PM610 on this farm where i'm living now. At the time that I first got curious about saws, I hadn't seen the PM610 used much. The big black wrap chain brake handle was laying in a box, since the metal upright handle had busted off. To be honest, I was a little intimidated by it, due to it's age and character. Well, after using the Poulan and getting frustrated by it, I started looking into the PM610. Ordered the broken parts and everything I would need to put it in like new condition. Then I did a total teardown and rebuild. Everything up to the point of prepping, painting, detailing, and decals. Just to get a good running saw. I was impressed with the way the PM610 ran and cut, and ran it that season. Well, their came to a point where the PM610 had its limits in the size of wood it could cut, so I went researching for a bigger saw. I can't remember where I looked online, but somehow I got interested in the 385xp. Maybe it was suggested that it was a good two-saw plan to have a 60cc saw and the 85cc saw, or maybe I was looking into the 394xp but people were saying it was too bulky. Can't remember, but I did some scouting and got a hardly used 385 on ebay. I can remember when I first started it, it felt and sounded like I was running a dirt bike in my hand. It was a HUGE step up from the PM610. Well since my evolution of running and hearing ported and muffler modded saws, that 385 now seems a lot more mild. My first major project that I wanted to tackle with the 385 was a silver maple that had a huge fork coming off of it exactly horizontal with the tree. And man, when that saw first touched wood, the huge chips it was throwing hypnotized me. Anyways, that's pretty much when the symptoms of CAD started catching up. Thanks to ebay...... I invested in a bunch of PM600-series saws, some that I made into runners, some that I haven't messed with. And that's what got me here. And from here, well i've added a few more.

I can honestly say, it's the most inexpensive and rewarding hobby that i've found yet. I love it!! :rockn:

I'm new to Craigslist. Never purchased anything from there. Do you have to be in the sellers area to buy something? Is it pickup only? Or do they ship items?

Craigslist is a free online classified ads. You gotta call or email the people sellin'. Then however you arange for payment and pickup or shipping is between you and the seller.

Oh, trust me...

I'd love to pick up some more Macs to add to the wood cutting fun. However, I need to pace myself (Or my wife might kill me first!)

I figure a 10-10 or 250 should be my aim. Although I have noticed that a lot of other Mac users talk about other saws as well. Where to begin!???

Not on purpose, but it seems like i've been getting the ones that people on here don't think much of.
Especially the PM600-series, and of course the Titans.
Don't hear much flack about the Titans, just their oil pump problems for some users.
And that they're heavier than the Swede saws in their class and from that time period.
Most of the die-hard Mac lovers here go for the oldies but goodies.

So i'm here to balance out the equation! :blob2:

P.S. Anyone here got a Titan 620 for sale? :ices_rofl:

I've bought two saw recently from CL sellers. Both about an hour away. I guess you need to determine how much the gas money and time is worth to you for each particular saw.

I've thought about having saws mailed to me, but then you don't get to touch it, fire it up, play with it, etc. before you hand over the $$$.

I noticed that you have a 605 in your collection. How has that run for you?

Yes, my ebay 490 is a prime candidate for what you said.
It looked beautiful in the pics, the engine is good, but stuff was broke and missing, and stuff broke after I got it.
Never let the saw sit in the package until after the return period is over. :bang:
Especially one of those "half-breeds" that parts are obsolete for. :(

Sometimes that's a gamble you have to take. It depends on how rare the saw is, and how bad you want it.

Just awesome! Winds up incredible! I would rate for power right up below the PM650. This one has mega compression, and is a good starter. Pulls a 24" bar easy! I recently pulled it down to rebuild it with new seals, gaskets, and bearings. I think it looks good enough that I won't even bother painting it. That is going to get reassembled after I get the parts for the PM1000 stuck on, which i'm waiting for. I can't wait to compare that PM605 with the Timber Bear. I think the engines are similar, from what I understand. Just for the heck of it, I might try an 8-pin and an 18" on that PM605. They balance about right with an 18" or 20".

Waiting for it to dry up outside, humid and damp.
