pm 650 oil tank issues

It's all apart now! All that is wrong is the square head on the bar stud isn't quite the right size so only the corner of it hits the oil tank casting. This caused the tiniest little piece of casting to break off (maybe .1 inches long if even that). How do I get the old stud out? Do I need a press or can I tap it out with a hammer if I support the tank correctly...

Point being if I can put a new stud in with a little piece welded to the stud it will work fine (or Biker Dude has another tank...)

Are all the tanks like this, I wouldn't want the same thing to happen again if I go the new tank route.

I'm surprised the stud didn't fall out after spinning around so much. You should be able to tap it out. Why not leave it in and weld a little piece of strap metal from the tight stud to the loose one. That should keep it from spinning. If the hole in the tank is loose it might leak bar oil so you might want to epoxy the stud in before welding the strap on.

I had to cut the bar nut off to get it apart so the bar stud now has a slot cur in it. But otherwise yes, I am sure that would work if I can find a new stud.

Biker Dude was correct again, the stud tapped right out. Now I just need to find a new one. Does Calvin have PM 650 parts?

I would hope so. Should interchange with the PM605, PM610, PM650, PM655, as well as the Timber Bear and the Eager Beaver 3.7. They all use the same bar. So lots of options.

....If you want to have a lot of fun, put a 16" bar on a 5-10, 6-10, 7-10 or PM700...
Mark

I have a 16" Roller on a Super 250 with an 8 pin that's kinda fun. If i wasn't a cheapskate, I'd try a 9 or larger since the 8 is nothing for the saw. I had a 16" with a race chain on a modified Homelite 2100 that was a little bizarre, for sure.

Here is a 250 with an 18", had to fit the tail for 9 pin 3/8" rim, works fine

5-10e

Just got this guy running this weekend. Waiting on a call to go sink it in a maple log.

If it still has a little poop that 5-10 should be a lot of fun to run.

I love my 7-10, I still have the 5-10 in the parts washer that I haven't had time to clean up, and I'm supposed to have a 6-10 coming one of these days.

I will have to get a PM700 and SP70 as well just to compare them all.

Well, Mark, since it had a original Mac chain on it with a lot left in it, and the fact that there is still a inspection stamp on the bottom, I think she hasn't cut more than a cord or 2 since new. So, she does have some poop left! Walked through some old hollow maple (it was all I had) with a new Stihl full chisel on an Oregon Power Match 24" bar, and it was like cutting butter. My brother has a healthy PM700 that I can compare it to. In fact, it's his saw...I just get the fun of making it run!

Just so you know, I had to rob the duckbill from my 1-10 to make this'n work. I guess the 1-10 will just get cleaned and painted and become a wall ornament. However, it doesn't look like it would take a lot to convert the 5-10 to a Walbro vertical throat carb. Just need to cipher the dimensions of an adapter plate.

It's an easy conversion for sure. However, your top covers will more than likely have to be changed afterwords. The filter cover won't be tall enough for the new carbs profile and the proper filter cover won't line up with your existing tank. I could certainly be wrong but, that's what happened on my 2-10 conversion.

I'd like to see that 2-10 conversion Jay, if we have a chance.

My plan right now is to come through on Friday sometime, hopefully in the afternoon to try and avoid some of the traffic. I will be coming 'round from Indiana this time and heading off to Boscobel when we get done.

Yeah, I've done a couple of the 2-10 conversions to the late style tall boy tank/filter. You can use the whole cover/handle assembly, or you can drill tap, and helicoil the old one. Benefit is the Walbro and the flat filter, but you lose the classic low profile styled top. The 5-10 is considerably taller in the styled version than even the 2-10 tall boy, but to get the same power out of it, the 10-10 carb might be too small.

I had me another nice little surprise whilst rooting through my Pile-O-Saws™. . . A video is worth a thousand pictures.

While the video was uploading, I checked the other 10-10, that was at the end of the video. . . It fired up and ran, but not great. Kept wanting to die. Me thinks I'll check the carb tomorrow. The jug looked fantastic through the plug hole. Probably could use a new air filter and fuel filter too. I had to shout over the 10-10, them Macs sure are loud, and I love it!! Dang they sound good!

Congratulations! Always nice to hear another Mac revived!

Even though I choose to use the PM605's and Timber Bear's as opposed, those 10-10's are catching my eye every time I hear one. The exhaust is just unique.

My boys were plugging their ears. . . The video didn't capture that rich snap these Mac's put on your eardrum. LOL

ID this old Mac

I found this one for sale a few hours from where I'm at, but I can't tell by the picture what model it is so far. I've been sifting thru the list on Acres', but for one it's gonna take forever, and secondly many of the saws are shown from the clutch side only or are just promo drawings instead of photos. Either way I'm going to try to get it for what they're asking, I just have to get a friend lined up to pick it up for me.

EDIT: The closest match I have found so far is either a Super 44 or 55. Though as stated above, both pictures are from the clutch side so I can't see that tell-tale round protrusion from the top of the flywheel cover.
