A little help needed. Haven't attempted to start the saw yet. But there was something rattling around inside the fuel tank. I was able to retrieve the two items at the bottom of the photo.
The person I got this from said he'd replaced the fuel lines. I am guessing that the smaller filter (black) was an older one that someone had just left in there.
Is it correct that the other one (I'm assuming that it is a filter?) that matches the one on the smaller fuel line is the one that should be reinstalled?

I mean... it sounds like 7-10s are a more desirable saw, but everyone needs a 10-10 as well, right?

LolI finally got that pesky PM 5700 running! I put a new fuel line in it & a different carb.The original carb has something wrong with it that I can't figure out.I had to turn the lo screw out 2 full turns for it to throttle up without stuttering,then it wouldn't idle because it was set too rich.On top of that the hi needle wouldn't stay in,it kept falling out even with the spring on.Once I swapped out the carb it fired rioght up & idles nicely,throttles up well too.Here are some pics (just a rebadged Timber Bear or PM 605).I don't think this saw has ever seen wood,when I pulled the recoil off there wasn't a speck of sawdust anywhere.

The line with the filter on it should be connected to the inlet side of the carburetor, that is on the right/PTO side of the saw as you are looking at it.
From the left/starter side of the carburetor there should be a line to the primer/purge bulb, and finally a line from the primer/purge bulb back to the tank.
The primer/purge bulb simply pulls fuel through the carburetor and discharges back to the tank to insure there is fuel in the carburetor when you attempt to start the saw. It looks like they have replaced the fuel lines, but you probably need to remove the starter side of the housing and make sure they replaced the line from the oil tank to the pump as well, all of those lines are notorious for falling apart. The line from the pump to the bar pad almost never needs to be replaced, go figure.

That's how I got my current SP125C. I was saving spare parts for my first one and realized I had enough parts for another saw.

This is what I envision old time loggers to look like. Lean and super buff, sculpted from running those heavy saws all day long.

Like making fast cars faster and racing them. Guys cant help but tinker and compete. Same with saws, lawnmowers, tractors, if it's gotta a motor on it someone wants to have bragging rights that theirs is the fastest. Now where is my SP70 with the 850 block..... LOL

I think I might've figured out what the problem was with the carb that was on the PM 5700.If you'll recall,I had to have the lo needle turned out 2 full turns in order for it to run without bogging when I'd throttle it up.It also ran so rich that it wouldn't idle even with the idle screw turned in all the way.The hi needle would fall out from vibration of the saw running.What would happen if some Bozo switched the needles?Would I be getting those results?BTW,I'm not that Bozo,I didn't pull the needles out of the carb till today.I won't find out if my theory is correct till I put that carb on a build that I'll be working on in the next couple months.
