I bought this little 2.3 Wildcat about 1 1/2 yrs.ago.I put a new fuel filter in & it wouldn't run,so I set it aside thinking it needed a carb reuild.Today I came across the saw while looking for another & got to it again.I tried starting it with fresh fuel in it & it was a no go.Something told me to try a Zama filter & wouldn't ya know it took off.It runs great after adjusting the carb & it oils well too,but the chain runs continuously while idling.I pulled the chain brake off to have a look at the clutch & couldn't find a thing wrong. The shoes are in good shape, the spring is in one piece,& the drum spins freely.Any ideas as to why the chain spins constantly?

Mark - It is a shoulder bolt, keep reminding me and I will check the details.

Jethro - I've seen them fracture right around the small diameter of the piston but not sure I've seen one break like that. I have a few on hand if you can't source one locally.

Mark

Thanks Mark. I have a few on hand a couple from you a long time back :)

Interesting never seeing 1 break that way before.

Hi, don’t know much about Mac but I picked up a bunch of parts the other day. A couple flywheel/coil assemblies, one marked 555. Some other coils, clutches, etc, nuts and bolts. No idea if it’s junk or something useful.
what should I look for as far as pt#s go?
mainly looking to organize the box and see what’s there.

Ed - make sure the clutch drum spins freely when the saw is stopped. There are several different clutch/drum combinations that will fit the small saws but the parts are not all compatible. The wrong clutch/drum combination will press the drum to the clutch and force it to turn constantly.

With the bar & chain off the drum spins freely. The teeth on the sprocket look pretty chewed up.I'm gonna pull the clutch off today & see what's going on.I may put another clutch & drum on from a parts 310.

Post some photos if you can, that would be the easiest way to get the ball rolling.

555 might refer to a PM555 in which case the parts could fit many 10 Series and even 600 Series saws.

Like this? 🤣
I'll get it spread out and try to clean stuff enough to recognize

That's a mean stash of parts. Perfect to get you on your way with some yellow saws
Ha, too much orange and orange/white already.
I'd be happy to see the pile go to somebody who might use it.
13# in the scale :p

One of those ignition sets is the 2 peice for the older 82cc saws.
@Jethro 2t sniffer just wants all the nuts and bolts!

Well guys,I got the 2.3 clutch situation figured out (?) somehow,Lol.I pulled the clutch off that was on the saw & noticed there was no washer in between the clutch & drum,so I pulled a PM310 that I got from Bob Kern (thanks Bob!) & used the washer. That made it bind up even worse.I then pulled the clutch assembly off the 2.3 & put the clutch assembly on from the 310 & all was good.Apparently someone had been into that clutch before me & mismatched something. What I was leary of was the fact that the saw has a 1/4 in.pitch chain on it & the clutch drum from the 310 ( I thought) was a 3/8 pitch, yet when I put it together it meshed just fine,go figure.

Can anyone tell me what size #6 "Screw - Brake Arm 95671" is on a 610?
Also, does anyone have any tips for getting the chainbrake back together? I've done it before a couple of years ago. From memory the bent part of the spring goes into the bottom of the latch, then the pin in the brake arm engages with the top of the latch...

SP81E and early PM850's had that two piece ignition.

The shoulder bolt for the brake is not in there, I didn't have a chance today to check one for the details, maybe Monday.

The parts are not all McCulloch, two of the clutches are from something else and there are a few other bits I don't recognize. I don't think the spike is McCulloch either. Most of the stuff is 10 Series, some of the fasteners & fuel cap are 600 Series.

The two shoe clutch with the plates and the oval muffler cover are from a small McCulloch, two fuel caps from a PM6, one from a 600/300 Series saw.

Bar plates are 10 Series and the recoil spring is from a large frame McCulloch saw, AV mounts are McC 10 Series.

There is one 92818 seal/gasket for the 10 Series automatic oil pump, one oil pump, two clutches that work on the LH start 10 Series or 600 Series saws.

2 insulators are from the 54cc 10 Ser saws, one is from a 600 Ser, and the one goes under the carburetor on the 10 Ser rigid saws.
