I am going to go dig in my friends basement and see if i can find the parts (or more of them..)
Missing- muffler, coil, clutch, bottom plate with handle, ALL the nuts and bolts,
need a new piston and ring.

I would love to get this up and running for use on a mill. if I am going to sell I will post it in the classifieds.

Tell us what is missing and maybe someone can help you. Or tell us what you have and maybe someone will buy it from you.

If you don't want to do this in an open forum then PM me.

Thanks, Ron

Just a reminder... I do have a handle with the hardware that's needed to mount it on the saw. So if you only find a bottom plate, I can supply you the handle.

not to interrupt but a ? ..... when I get a chain for the 1-41, I never used a manuel oiler before.. how often do you normally hit the oiler??

It depends on what you're cutting...use it often if cutting up a large tree trunk and about half as much if you're trimming small stuff. I think the oiler works better with motor oil than with bar oil, also. Some will disagree, but when these saws were made you never heard of bar oil, or at least I didn't.

Rest of the saw is fine. Here's where I started posting pics of the entire saw. http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/71126-356.htm#post2755867

If its just the engine that is toast, save it put it to the side and find another cylinder. Boring a cylinder that does not have a removable head is expensive, had to do it twice so far, but its not the end. Sometimes you can find just an engine from a saw being parted out for cheaper than the oversize piston and boring will cost you. Plus you could probably sell the other cylinder to someone who is willing to bore it out. I wouldnt get rid of it, just means its going to take longer:cheers:.

I have a stripped 200, the cylinder still shows crosshatching from the hone.
I don't think it's the same power range as the 640.

I sent off a 640 that had remnants of the odd muffler.

According to the 1965 shop manual supplement, the 640 was the 1963-64 update of the 1-63 and features an 80 cc displacement. While there may be some porting differences, the crank case/cylinder from a later 1-40/50/60 series, or a 200/250 should drop right in. The basic engine from a MAC 15 should work as well; all are 80 cc though some have two exhaust ports open and some have three.

Note that the 1-52/53, 300, 380 were all 87 cc but should provide a drop in replacement with greater displacement.

The 450 is 90 cc, and the 550 is 99 cc but the engines from those should be drop in replacements as well (sorry no more rhymes).

Its a Keeper

Those old gear-drives are to cool to scrap out. Keep looking for a 200/250 parts saw. Or any of the 1-4_ thru the 1-6_ direct drive saws. Just make sure you get one with a clean p&c. I'd strip your 640 down and clean and inspect the major parts, inventory them. Once you've found a nice block to build from you're on your way to a hobbie that will consume, overtake, and fulfill, your free time.:chainsaw:

Mac 15

Hi,
Need a few parts for my saw so can get it purring. Here's the short list.
  1. Carburetor Tillotson HC I think P/N is 52807
  2. Throttle linkage P/N 52824
  3. Air Filter Assy - IPL Items 1-9

I think I know where that 200 sits right now......unless it's another one. Do we need to send the block somewhere? If so, I'll pull the 'keeper' bits off and box it up...

IMark

I have a 450 engine that seems to have good compression.
I can only turn it by hand,I don't see any scoring on the piston.
If you want it HeRoze let me know. It will be cheap.

Yup! I think I found a willing buyer for the parts. I would hardly ever use that 640 except to intimidate others :) I'm holding on to the bar, though. I've got a bow chainsaw in my future sometime... I want to find a little bit lighter saw to run it. Even at 6'2" and a solid 220, I don't see draggin that 640 around much.

thanks for the offers - really. You guys rock. I'm switching my search to something a bit lighter. truthfully, the piston and jug pushed me over the edge and in a calmer moment I might have delayed selling it. I think I found someone that will put the parts to good use, and bring it back to life. It is going to work out and I'll have my first running Mac soon enough, just not this 640.

yea, it takes a bit of knowing the saw. to over simplify, I look for a bit of oil spray off the front of the bar before cutting (even with an auto oiler, but I'm paranoid). it also teaches me how many pumps it takes to saturate the chain.

First Mac "consumer" model

Going to pick up a Mac 15 in the morning.. 80cc of pure yellow :)
even runs !! be my oldest mac :)

You do know that this Bow Bar will only mount on a Gear drive.

Nope. Crap.

But now that I think about it for a second, it is set up for a left hand mounting... ####.

Hmmm - I don't really want that heavy of a saw for harvesting fire wood, but do want a bow for bucking.
