Why Have 4 when i can have 5.........even if one is Blue(for a while)

Now all i have to do is wait for them to all turn up...Should have all four of them arrive this week.

Not sure what the blue one is. Could be a 7-10, looks like the one I am working on. Good luck with it, and good start to a collection.

Nice haul! Welcome to the forum!!

Looks like thick rings to me.

Thick rings, if you look a few pages back you will find a discussion on thick and thin, thick rings are .062" thick, thin rings are .025" thick for the large displacement saws.

Somehow that angular clutch cover just doesn't look right on an otherwise well contoured saw. I wonder if it would be possible to put the more sculpted cover from a 200/300/400/500 type saw on it? I know I have a slightly modified 200 clutch cover I put on one of my SP125's when I put the short bar on it for fun.

No matter what, that is a nice looking saw and should be a lot of fun to run. I used my 1-72 again a bit this weekend on a couple of trees my younger son lined up to take down. My grandson Grady will be 3 at the end of May, already an enthusiastic helper.

Thanks guys! I thought they would be the thick rings. I remember reading a discussion regarding thin vs. thick rings but I couldn't remeber where it was.

I'm pretty sure now that I can rule out having a 740L now. Found some pics on another site of an actual 740L. Doesn't match up with the starter and clutch cover that I have.

Looks good Mark. Ran a tank each through Old 87s yesterday. I will agree about the 1-72 and the manual oiler. If mine wasn't so nice and original, I'd consider swapping oiler tanks.

I know I said before that it was advantage Super 250 and it still is, but after yesterday, I can say the 1-72 is right there in bigger wood. The functional governor holds it back in the lighter stuff.

It was quite a good time racking firewood with vintage saws. Even the extra weight wasn't a problem. Only my left hand (which is still throbbing) misses the A/V Huskies.

NIce start on your collection. That is the first PM850 Super that I have seen. Acres has it listed on his site but I wasn't convinced they existed until now. Ron

Back in '77 I saw the last new big geardrive in a sawshop. It was a 895CL, chrome bore, lefty start, with a 60" bar. I couldn't pony up the $900+ for it. I have never seen another one.

That right there, with your location being the PNW, tells you how rare that beast must be. :censored: Sometimes, I wish I could travel back into time... :D The problem though, it ####s the future up. It would be the largest damn can of worms anyone could ever open. (remember 'Back to the Future'?)

nallac - very nice start for a McCollection. You have a few saws there already that will make a lot of us jealous, but the PM850 Super is really fantastic.

I would guess the blue one is really based on the 10-10, McCulloch sold a number of the 10-10 power heads to others and many were painted blue. Belgian has a blue 10-10 based cut off saw, come to think of it I have a blue 795 based cut off saw myself.

What you will discover is that no matter how many McCulloch saws you collect, you will always discover there are more models that you don't have than you do have.

This evening I cleaned gaskets off the SP125 and I am still stumped as to why I have oil in the crank case:mad:

I see no reason for it being there and have been pouring over the IPL to see if something is missing.

Here is a picture of the oil pump. Is there anything a miss looking on this? It all moves freely. I am confused as to how the tank oil is kept seperate from crank case as it runs (meaning I see the how in the top of the cover but should there be more to it than that). The gasket that seals the oil tank from the crank case plate/cover was pretty much just mush. I am wondering if that was enough for oil to get past it somehow. The gasket from crankcase to plate/cover is in good condition and could be reused.

I just do not want to miss anything obvious.

There should be a tiny spring and ball check valve in the top end of that pump assembly. If it is not working, you could be pulling oil back down into the pump that would drain into the crank case.

Mark

That is the only thing I have not touched. Is it supposed to operate in the sense of on/off to keep the oil out of the crank case than? Clearly to me the disk on the oil pump does not seal anything off.

Can I vacumm test that through ports to see if it holds?

well i finally got my 1-51 up and running pretty decent the h needle ended up being almost 2.5 turns out for some reason and there must have been a little water in the fuel i was using because we ran the first tank thru it and we couldn't get it to be consistent in any sense of the word so i tore the carb apart (again) and found beads of water and the the fuel pump diaphragm cleaned it off put it back together and added new fuel with a lil stabil and some extra oil and got it tuned almost immediately went out and did some cutting with dad and it worked great except for the fuel leak from somewhere on the tank gasket from when i split it the old gasket i tried to reuse must be junk so now i get to try my hand at making a new gasket for it anyone got any preferences to gasket material?? cork? rubber? what ya think??

Also got out the 250 and did some cutting with that and got it tuned in real good as well.

Thanks to ALL that have helped me get my Grandpa's saw back to running shape and have now got me addicted to the Yellow beasts of the Past ... May they Rise and Run strong once again!

Tank gasket... might try cork/rubber material from Autozone, and maybe put a little Indian Head (also found at AZ) sealer on it... Heimann probably has a better suggestion, but I don't know what it would be.

Me too. I'm having a hard time trying to not fap to it... :)

I wonder if RandyMac ever noticed? :(

somebody lookin' to get smacked? I've been watching females for some time now, I know a nice rump when I see one.

There is some song, part of it goes like this

"I hate it when you leave, but I like watching you walk away"
