Just got the tank gasket in for the 250 and I am not sure it is the right one but don't have access to the saw right now so can't check.

But, I am surprised it seems to be made out of a paper/fiber material which seems would wick the gas out of the tank instead of keep it in.

Or am I just not wise in the ways of old school technology? Is there something that needs to applied to both of the tank services to "glue" the gasket in place?

Anyone? Bueller?

Got this guy in the truck:

Any chance of an ID?

Flip her over....oops wrong forum....

There are some numbers on the bottom, that will tell what it is.

My guess, 1-70

Randy, that's no 1-70.

That could be a 1-71, 1-72, 1-76 or the like.

The 1-70 has a older style tank, and still has the points/condensor under a little cap between the tank and the flywheel cover. The 1-70 is kind of the bridge between the 44 style top tank and the 1-70 style top tank.

You kids find something useful to do.

I've used up most of my usefulness for the day, spent the better half of the morning bucking dried up cherry with the PM850 and the PM700.

Generally when those saws come out the Stihlavarnared crowd is impressed.

I let the Jonsered crowd run a couple of them the other day, the one went in after the bucking spree and changed his britches.

I ran a little Jonsered that day, felt like a pillow with a bar. I like my saw to talk back to me.

Reminds me of:

"That is why I ran McCullochs, most other makes were too tame, McCullochs dared you to master them, a half hearted attempt to do so, gave them the chance to whip your ass."

Love it.

Thanks, Gents. At least that puts me on the right track...I had been looking in the 797ish ilk.

I'll report back later...

Like Randy said check on the underside of the crankcase. There is a stamping there, on the left is the model/part number and the right is the S/N. If you come up with a just a number I have some references here to compare to.

Chris

So, it has a one-dash72/82 with the 72 above the 82. SN is 1528...oh crap..or was it 1582? Doh!

You, my friend, are the proud owner of a McCulloch 1-72.

87cc motor, and a good solid top tank Mac, it has a removable head.

They used the same crankcase/jug assembly for the 1-82 also, which was a gear drive model.

Any 1-7x are direct, and 1-8x are gear.

I can imagine so, Aaron. All the time, same crap over and over...

A while to cool down usually does help matters. Sometimes I'll be messing with a certain problem for hours set it down and get it on the first try the next time around.

When I first started working on these things, though, even a fuel line could be challenging sometimes.

If you ever really get frustrated with the saws I believe they got a place at your job for you to really "cool down" in

Chris

I could arrange for you to get some "guiet time" Chris. Just say the word, and I'll make your reservation. Don't mind the smells...:jester:

Yep. "Quiet". Stupid cellphone keyboard. Editor isn't working for me either. We don't give meds, but the psych folks do sometimes. Too much time working on mini-macs will put you in the rubber room...

Is this useful Randy

Just got this Big Bad Boy off the UPS truck today.
Some had seen it on the bay.
Another big geardrive Mac with the God almighty
797 motor in it. Advertised as good comp. and
spark. I got it running but then needed to clean the
carb. Diaphrams looked very nice and reused them.
It will need the lower handle brace and maybe cylinder
cover. But she seems to run well, Just need to get it
to a good piece of wood.

I never saw it for sale. I was busy looking for
other saws and saw parts.
