Here is the tree I will be bucking up, when the pouring rain clears up. (looks pretty clear now... been so for a couple of minutes... might head out in a few...)

I did not drop it. It had many huge branches hanging over the house, and it was rotten from about 30 feet up all the way to the stump. Huge cracks all the way up too. A pro with a High Ranger and an MS200T, accompanied by a 395XP with what appeared to be a 32-36" bar (had to make sure to get through without having to walk around the tree...)

The older more experienced tree guy was nervous about this tree, as my neighbor was too... it has (had, I guess...) a twist about 2/3 the way up, (total height about 85 feet... bucket truck was a 55' reach. There still was about 25 foot of tree above the guy in the bucket... Also, it was fairly rotten, and the two combined can be very unpredictable...

You can see the rope used to help pull the tree against its lean, which was towards the house... an F-250 was tugging on that rope.

It only took them an hour and a half to limb and drop it.

Nice! Have FUN!

One rope .... can be risky at times .....

I am looking forward to cutting that beast up. It will use all of the 28" that my 850 has bolted on to it. Gonna have to bring a tape and some paint to mark it into 16" lengths...

Near the base of the log, I believe it is about 30"

Yep...

They did have another rope with them, but it was far too nice to use in the rain... (brand spanking new) it had just started raining while he just finished taking care of all of the limbs...

The guy trimming in the bucket truck said last year he almost cut a finger off because a branch or something slipped in his hand, causing the Creamsickle MS200T to contact his finger... ouch.

He was using it one handed 99% of the time... holding the limb with one hand and cutting with the other... talk about dangerous.

Also, the 200T's were struggling a bit (especially the one that needs a rebuild and a sharp chain, lol) in the 2-8" branches and limbs on this soft maple.

Lol, when I walked over there Monday to see what saws were playing that music, I saw a little white and orange saw, and I said to his son in law "Got a creamsickle there, eh?" He said "Yep." and we all laughed...

He runs a MS 361... later he said he heard some guy say it could pull a 32" bar... Sure, for a couple of cuts before it burns up in this maple... I think that's a 50cc saw IIRC... 32" is too much for a non geardrive 60cc saw... so 50 ain't gonna cut for long on that bar. Might get away with one problem tree with skip chain, but definitely not everyday use in the tree business, lol.

Oh, the rope was 1.5" in diameter...

Who sent you from the shop on this field trip anyways?
361's are 58-60cc, and while the clown was a dreamer, certainly no more so than you.
So after this little sawcation, get you back in the shop where you won't embarrass any more yellow saws. And put that PM650 back under the bench, if'n you pinch that bar one more time sos it needs to rescued by another saw, we'll find us another monkey.:msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin:

Good video, tree didn't look near that big though, and were you far enough away, or is that where they sent you?

Kyle, it's good to see you have the 850 out. I hope you have a blast with it tomorrow. If you don't have any wedges yet, make you one or two wood ones. They can be very useful bucking, especially while you are still getting the hang of bigger wood and longer bars. I'm jealous; I wish I had a neighbor to help me tune my saws. Ron

I don't get it. People will pay over $200 on the bay for a PM610, but at the same time nice 10-10S saws are selling for less than $100. A 10-10S will smoke a PM610 any day of the week and feels a lot less awkward to run.

Wendell, just because you missed this one doesn't mean you won't trip over a 797 someday... #### happens, but it is for a reason. That's what I know from experience.

I know how you feel, I've missed out on lots of great deals, etc. when I failed to act, or someone else snatched it from me before I saw it. Like the old Homelite saw my great uncle had. That still bothers me to this day. However, I now have two monster Macs, one is running, and one is going to run fairly soon. There's an upside to it somewhere. Some awesome saw will come along just for you.

Yup, happens. The same graveyard that yielded the 1-76 and 790 to you offered up a Super 797 for peanuts to me... Of course I still have to strip it, fix it, pretty it, and tune it, but that's (in addition to the kart saws) what'll keep me motivated this fall/winter.

Thanks Al.
I hope that you do eventually get hold of a big 118 for your collection. I am very pleased to pick this saw up for the price I paid - had a good chat to the owner about its history etc, and seems like it did not see alot of action over the years, as it was used for very large trees only. The 118 saws are pretty hard to find - especially running units in decent condition. I am waiting on some parts for my other 118 to give it a new lease on life as well.

Wonderfully built German machines these big Dolmar saws are - nothing more to be said!

Edit - I will keep an eye out Al, and if anything crops up I will let you know!

Regards,

Chris.

Hi Chris,
Thanks and I am glad to be of help. And you know, karma is at work. Look what I picked up today!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Mac lovers but a Partner C6 has been high on my list for a long time. Oh boy!!

I see an ad on my local craigslist for a McCulloch 1-50. $25.00...

What is the 1-50? Can't seem to find any info?

There's also a "450". What's that?

The 1-50 is 80 cc and based on the D-30/36 & 1-40. They have a different flywheel housing adapted from the top/center starter on the D-30 variety. There are no bearings in the piston or top end of the connecting rod, only bushings.

The 450 is actually 91 cc (2.165 x 1.500), Acres site has a few minor errors in it. The 450 is a front fuel tank model so it was more of a consumer type saw than saw the 740 @ 95 cc and top fuel tank would have been.

Warped is correct though, either one would make noise and be fun to operate. The 450 would have more of the outside parts common with other saws (flywheel cover, clutch cover) and a better chain tension adjuster, plus it has an automatic oiler.

Any later model clutch cover with the tension adjust in the cover can be fit to the 1-50 to eliminate the cumbersome oversize screw head in the original design.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't want people catching on. I've noticed the same thing around here. Haven't seen a 10-10S on CL here yet. However, I have seen more than a few 10-10 variants, and they've always been listed for much less than the PM610/3.7EB type saws that get listed around here. I don't understand why. I got the PM10-10 I traded to Chris from CL for less than what I've seen the cheapest PM610 family saws listed for around here....

There was a Super 797 in that stash? Did you grab it on your first visit? Dang Charles..................that's a score. Double your money???:jester:

Got me another Project saw. Was needing a Cylinder and rings for my 250 well I got it today a parts saw the guy said the rings were good. So Im working on it every now and again today Ill take a picture after its done :msp_rolleyes:

Yes yellow is a nice colour Mark, most of my Partners are yellow!
Jacob, yes, I believe it runs. It has a broken pull cord and the old fellow who owns it said it originally had a stee cable starter rope and he replaced it with normal rope. When that broke he put it away. Now he is retiring and selling off his gear to move north to a warmer climate.

Sure did. It's sleeping on a shelf under a shop towel next to the Super Wiz 80 and making it nervous... Not selling it, resto and keep.
