My route was motorcycles...1980-82 models. Then i went the old tractors, ferguson to30, mf50, tgose were pricey to fix. Then old chainsaws....much cheaper. I did buy the old chevy but only 1. Im not a car guy. Ill stick to old chainsaws. Still much cheaper.

Maybe a little off-topic here, but I'm wondering, those of us that are into vintage chain saws--not just to sit on the shelf, but actually use it once in awhile--same group of folks who are into vintage pick-ups, vintage tractors, vintage motorcycles? Hmmm ...... Could it be ?? Or is it just me?
Well there is an Apache sitting in my driveway........

Well i got the 795 today. Im happy to say im excited. Very clean, complete machine. No damage. The cylinder is in great shape, the piston looks fantastic. The carburetor has been swapped out with a tillotson hl119 already. Its not a mac carb. I did see a few fasteners missing. The muffler has very little surface rust. Inside the fuel tank is very clean. Other than some little things....i believe it to be a rather low hour saw. Perhaps this weekend ill have it running.
Im at softball practice or id send photos...sorry.
Pick this up awhile ago, pretty clean runs great. IMG_3464.jpeg

Contrary to what has previously been posted, there are only 24 loose needle bearings on the big end of the connecting rod...

Mark
When it's 10:30 at night, you're trying to put the bearings in place so you can bolt the cap on and call it a night, and all you're using is a dab of grease on a screwdriver tip to try and drop the bearings in place and oil to hold them in place it sure feels like there's a million! Or maybe just a couple hundred.....

The 795 is definately alive. Great running saw. No fuel leaks anymore. I put a directional hockey puck muffler on it. Definately.has a pop to it. Not sure i like the 36" bar...its a bit hefty. Looks awesome though. Runs great. Started today about a dozen times just to make sure. Lol. Ill try to post a picture or 2. Its telling me i have the wrong extension. Gotta figure that out.

Vinny - I have some 3D printed sawdust screens for the rear of that AF cover. Mine are stiffer than the ones Max or Brian sell, once they are in they are in to stay.

I took this 7-55 apart for a good cleaning.

Son Jeff helps out on Saturdays, he is pretty patient with working at the parts washer.

Ran into a few issues so I had to take it down further than anticipated.

Those 3 odd pieces in the basket are the bearing "cage" for the loose needles on the connecting rod.

Cylinder is immaculate. Those "dotted lines" are residual hone marks from the manufacturer.

I murdered two trees with the 800 today

Not real tall were part of a hedge kinda thing

Running a 272 and 395 also. Interesting thing I noticed is the AV on the 800. It's quite magic really. Feels pretty well as vibeless as the 395 and much better than my beloved 272. 272 AV design is 6 years later than the Mac

Anyway nice saw Vinny :)

Well as long as you hugged them first.

Ok guys, the more I mess with the carb on the 1-76 the more I'm convinced it's going to hit the trash. For whatever reason I can't get it to keep from flooding the carb box out. Needle and seat pressure test good to ~20 psi. New rebuild kit, just followed the video on rebuilding the primer. But at idle, or just after I shut it off it starts leaking fuel out the carb into the carb box. Saw runs great other wise.
Any tips or ideas before I toss a tilly hl19 on it?
