I still use mine occasionally to buck large oak that falls at our gun club. It’s a heavy ******* at 28 lbs. with a 32” bar. I let the saw do the work on I’m 68 and to old to toss em around like I used to.

Well picked this up yesterday.

Traded a couple little 50cc jonnys for it.

Sadly quite low compression well not like fried but certainly not what the paint on the handle says. But still I have a strong runner beat up 1 I could throw this around. I do have a piston n cylinder somewhere too so will see

Or I might pinch that nice 44A for a 7-10

I seldom see Macs with original paint in that condition. I'm assuming its original.

Yeah very much original. The hour meter on the handle doesn't match the feel on the cord so I suspect it's carbon scored or heck could of drank straight gas. Dunno. She runs fine but won't be a beast a 700 should be.

Wish it was a 7-10. Love the lightweight tank n starter. Have like 4 7-10s but not tidy like this

I grab any 10 series I can. Dead or alive the parts are so handy to have.

Need to do crank seals in a sp70. Sp81 and the 850 seems to have a leak somewhere too. Carb kits weren't helping any of them. Hopefully not all buggerd intake boots

With the paint so clean I wonder why that saw would be low on compression? Maybe taking the muffler off and inspecting the piston / cylinder would provide some insight.

Interesting repair done
Oddly very clean
Piston not terrible. Pretty normal looking from usual Mac's of this age. The scores are very fine not deep at all
Compression feels alot better than I thought on the flywheel by hand. Could be now it's drowned in crankcase slop from tipping it about while working on it perhaps. Not hissing away like a badly scored bore and rings are nice n free.

Hmmm. Just seems kinda weak on the cord

I've got another pretty beat old girl that will hang on its cord long enough for you to give up n put it back down. This thing certainly not. And certainly not needed is the decomp button

Maybe I should just fix the leak in the tank n run it

I have crankshaft seals and intake boots for the 10 Series saws if you need them.

Pistons and rings are getting hard to find other than LRB.

Thanks Mark I've still got the 3 sets of seals you sent me. Just life gets in the way an been to lazy to do them

Hopefully not the boots but to be fair I haven't actually checked

Are even the 70cc pistons drying up now?

I have a random white box 70cc piston I picked up somewhere suppose it's an LRB

FWIW, the rigid mount saws like the PM700 don't have a flexible boot on the intake. There is a spacer between the carburetor and the tank bottom, and an insulator between the tank bottom and the cylinder. 4 gaskets altogether...

I have found a few saws where someone omitted the washer between the clutch and the crankcase which allowed sawdust, grass, etc. to accumulate there and wreck the seal.

I hope that bit was for others thanks Mark. Yeap was meaning the boot on my SP saws

Hmm your making me wonder now though as I've not had a air leak in the rigid saws before

I'd better go n check that old 81 for a washer
