I haven't really paid much attention to the DL count for several years with plenty of bars and chains around, or just make up a chain as needed...

Back in the day when I bought a chain to fit the wide, hardnose bar 77 DL was the magic number and even then getting it on the first time took some effort.

Looking at the catalog it seems McCulloch used their impeccable logic again when designing bar and chain combinations; you'd better have a program in hand when selecting the proper set up.......

Yea it was a bit of a pain. There's an aluminum guard next to the muffler and mine is a bit bent I had to use a screwdriver and some elbow grease to get the chain to slide behind the clutch and that guard. I bought a cheapo chain for 21.95 lol we will see how it fits then I will buy a better chain. I probably should of took the time now that I think about it to actually count the rim sprocket to see if it is 7 or 8t 😂 the weirdest part of this saw is its pretty clean for low compression (90#) and it also has a brand new rim sprocket on it 😆 but you could very well be right on the 77dl and I could of misjudged the slack in the 79 dl chain I mocked up. I will let you know once I get the new chain in.

This started yrs ago picking up parts off ebay and bob johnson. This year i got a 60 dollar nos cylinder. All the pieces fell together tonight. This is a sp81 with many nos parts and a few powdercoated parts. Im only missing a sticker which is on its way. One small part needs paint..lower front bracket. Its never had fuel in the engine and i may not. Still debating on it........anyway i hope you all enjoy looking. It was a fun project put together over the past week.

Nice Vinny!

Max dropped this one off on a visit earlier this year. NOS saw but missing a few bits...

I decided it was time to make it whole again.

We spent a fair amount of time comparing part numbers for the missing pieces with items on hand and I think we were able to come up with everything needed. If you've been into one of the Titan 50/57 or Double Eagle 50 models you cannot appreciate the complexity of the plumbing and of course all of the lines must be replaced as the original materials were very poor.

That is not the clutch intended for this model but with a minor adjustment it can be made to work. There was one NOS 219854 listed on eBay but for $139 + shipping I decided to pass.

Glad Its getting completed and has a good home Mark!

Just finished the last little saw project of 2024. Installed new oil seals & impulse line. Thanks Mark Heimann.
The saw that started the 10 series 82cc craze. The father of the SP81, grandfather of the PM850, and great grandfather of the PM800. The early ones had 3 piece clutches on them. A must for every serious 10 series collector. Enjoy.

PS I have NOS 3 piece clutches and clutch drums if you ever want to get one.

What is it that makes it so satisfying to get an old one back to operating condition? I never tire of hearing on roar back to life after a long winters nap.

For me its that at some point someone gave up on the saw and i can get it going again. Its also the look of the guys face when they hear it running again. You know it takes them back to cutting firewood or timber and a different time in their lives, always a smile it seems. Its that notion that it can be done, that a shop said it is garbage and put it on a shelf and you fixed it with very little effort to say in your mind...haha, i did it!! And as you mentioned that mcculloch or whatever old saw SOUND! When i get one running anymore and i come back inside, my wife laughs at my grinning face and she says..."i heard it, congratulations" lol

That's kind of how it is for me... expect when I got my stack-muffler 450 running at 11:30PM the congratulations from my wife was:

"ARE YOU F@@%$&@ INSANE? I HEARD THAT ALL THE WAY IN THE HOUSE, YOU PROBABLY WOKE UP ALL THE NEIGHBORS!"

I have fired them at 5am here before. Luckily I live away from folks.

The Titan 50 is finished. Ordinarily I would not add fuel & oil to a saw I am planning to put in the display but I wanted to make sure the coil I selected was correct for these models. Starts, runs, and oils as it should so I ran it empty and will get it moves once the excess oil finished dripping off the internals.

There are at least three different top covers found on the Titan 50/57 and Double Eagle 50 models. Two attach with a screw, one has an adjustable shutter for winter/summer operation, and the one on the 50 above is just plain. The shutter version on the 57 is shown below.

These was another version with a wire bail and over center snap, shown here on a Double Eagle 50.

Part number 19970, my inventory says I have a few on hand, contact me if you can't find one closer. FWIW, the same knob was used on the older models (3-25, 4-30, 47, 77, etc. for the primer button.

Thanks Mark for your help.
I doubt if I will find one closer- could you let me know the price please and if you could send USPS to the Uk.
