Congratulations Bob, the screws that McCulloch used are normally pretty hard, not always easy to get them out. I do have a variety of LH drill bits that are also useful when trying to remove a broken screw.

A few months ago I was putting a two man saw back together and heard a crack as I was tightening a screw, unbelievably it backed right out...

Wow!

That's kind of how it is for me... expect when I got my stack-muffler 450 running at 11:30PM the congratulations from my wife was:

"ARE YOU F@@%$&@ INSANE? I HEARD THAT ALL THE WAY IN THE HOUSE, YOU PROBABLY WOKE UP ALL THE NEIGHBORS!"
Sounds like me years back you've seen my neighborhood. 🤣 Way to close. I'm surprised she hasn't complained about the smell, or has she ?

Here's the saw with 78dl I must have a 8t sprocket because there was little room left. That bar is pretty dang beefy. It was misrepresented on eBay. It's definitely like a 22" and I I think with the big spike it's actually 20" now a question ❓. I seen other recoil assemblies with dog spike holes could the saw run double dogs with that type recoil assembly and another spike? Thanks fellas IMG_20241231_191712136_HDR.jpgIMG_20241231_192457769.jpgIMG_20241231_192518362.jpgIMG_20241231_192525601.jpgIMG_20241231_192540989_HDR.jpgIMG_20241231_192549675_HDR.jpgIMG_20241231_192533078_HDR.jpg

Another Mculloch joined the fray. 1000021179.jpg
PM650 I traded with somebody on another forum( he's also a member here as well, Chainsaw Collectors is his handle if I'm remembering correctly) for a homelite 550 that I all but gave up on trying to get running. Haven't dug into it yet , but it pulls over. Also got a bunch of extra parts for it including a piston/jug/connecting rod assembly.

Reason the latter was included is it has low compression, he thought maybe the piston/jug is(are) scored, but when I looked it over I noticed the decomp button isn't working at all. 1000021180.jpg

My thought-and I may be completely wrong- is that the button is stuck or jammed open, hence the low compression. I won't know until I look into it a little more. I see these on eBay so if it turns out to be bad I'll just get another valve and replace it.

Also have to fine tune my mac1010 auto and dive into the 250 that I have buried in the hoard of stuff...

I have a Pro Mac 700 that I acquired recently. It was very hard to tune and would lean out when cutting. I decided to investigate today. I replaced the crank seals and pulled the carb. Whoever was into this carb last made a mistake or two when reassembling. The metering diaphragm and gasket are assembled in the wrong order and the inlet screen was 3/4 plugged with sawdust. A result of the saw being run without the grommets installed in the air box. The metering diaphragm is surprisingly stiff. Possibly a low quality AM kit. The check valve assembly seems to be operating properly when tested.

I see that there are two thick gaskets installed on the pump side(inlet) of the carb. One on the cover and one on the carb body. The IPL that I have shows only one against the cover. Can anyone confirm if there should be one or two?? Pictures attached for reference.

I’ll have a better look next time I get into the shop but I’m pretty sure that carburetor has a typical aluminum cover. I’m not sure if I’ve ever noticed a steel cover. Is it an obvious difference in appearance??

I am attempting to do a pressure vac test on a pro mac 55. Do I need to remove and plug the decomp and can someone tell me the thread size? Thanks
I'm yet to perform a pressure/vacuum test myself but the ones I have watched (Stihls) the decomp valve gets taken out and plugged. 🤷

It takes 2 to tango

The view of 2 bp1 powerheads before and after. Along with some very interesting information from a 1963 sales line up and an entertaining read from some of the McCulloch Reporter magazines, if you are unaware of what these are they were magazines for the dealers to keep up with what was happening in the rest of world of McCulloch. In one of the reporters it is spoke about how a class was held for dealers to learn how to diagnose and work on the bp1 saws properly as they were a complex design of their time. Shown also is a bp1 cutaway saw in the top left of the page, rumor has it still exists in North America after speaking with several people on the hunt for parts to make one of these saws a complete runner. More pictures to come to show the slight differences in parts between the two saws, very interesting once I really started to look closer at them.

I Would like to thank and recognize a few gentleman because none of this would be possible without the help and support of Mark Heimann, Max Rowe/ MaxtheMacMan, Wayne Sutton, and Roger Bennett.
