It takes 2 to tango

I have 2 styles of gas tanks, 2 styles of top covers one has a bigger hump where the plug is at. There are 2 styles of engine assemblies one has a pressed in "slave" cylinder as shown in the January 62 ipl and the other engine's "slave" cylinder is separate and uses as gasket as shown in the October of 62 ipl. I will be honest and say I am completely ignorant to all the nuances between them and any help is much appreciated, these are not my wheel house like they are for others.

That's kind of how it is for me... expect when I got my stack-muffler 450 running at 11:30PM the congratulations from my wife was:

"ARE YOU F@@%$&@ INSANE? I HEARD THAT ALL THE WAY IN THE HOUSE, YOU PROBABLY WOKE UP ALL THE NEIGHBORS!"
That’s why I like living in the country. Around these parts that’s normal.

That's the best part...I do live in the country on 26 acres. I was 300 feet from our bedroom window when my Mac 450 woke my wife up, lol. Neighbors are about the same distance from my shop.

Here's the saw with 78dl I must have a 8t sprocket because there was little room left. That bar is pretty dang beefy. It was misrepresented on eBay. It's definitely like a 22" and I I think with the big spike it's actually 20" now a question ❓. I seen other recoil assemblies with dog spike holes could the saw run double dogs with that type recoil assembly and another spike? Thanks fellas View attachment 1230355View attachment 1230356View attachment 1230357View attachment 1230358View attachment 1230359View attachment 1230360View attachment 1230361
I have a 440 with the double spikes. It definitely adds to the coolness factor 😀

Woodslasher lost interest in a 640 gear drive project and sent it to me. Saw had been stripped and powder coated and partially assembled. There was some minor damage in shipping but I was able to find a suitable starter cover and Mike (Glock 57) gave it the same powder coat as the rest of the saw.

This is another 640 I went through some while ago, the big gear drive McCulloch saws can be set up to drive off either side of the gearbox. Most of the time the bars were mounted on the "inside" for a better balanced saw.

It is also possible to turn the output shaft around and come out the clutch side for a right mounted, flush cutting set up.

It took some effort and it still needs work, but the 640 did breathe some fire today. I'm thinking I will need to go through the engine again and find an air leak as it is very slow returning to idle and does not accelerate off idle as it should. For now anyway, I mounted the bar Dan sent with the saw for show. I will have to modify the bar or make some special bar protector plates if this bar is to work on this gear drive saw.

I have too many saw with customers waiting to spend any more time on this one right now.
