The guy I bought my CB 6048 from told me starting in 2010 that all OWB that are bought will have to be the newer models with the higher EPA standards. All the older ones out there now will be grandfathered in. Anyone else heard of this?

Depends on your state. Some states will adopt the EPA rule by 2010 and some will not. It all depends on where you live and if the state adopts the rule or not. The EPA is not a federal rule.

I live in Lapper Mi, and i have not heard anything in regards to that at all. I wonder if there is something on Mi.gov about that.

My dealer works for the DNR so I'm sure he has the heads up on something like this. As long as we are grandfathered in I really don't care.

There's been some rumblings of this amoung the legislators from districts with higher populations for a while now, and several bills have been drafted. None have hit the table yet, no doubt because they are waing for a larger more encompassing bill to present and barter with, and will likely tack the OWB stuff in the provisions.

Long story short, it ain't here yet, but is less than a year away, and the details will be created by a bunch of city slickers that don't burn wood.

Either get grandfathered now, or get busy nagging the socks off of your districts Lansing Lizzards.

A good friend(Fish cop) was talking about it the other day.
He was laughing about enforcing such silliness in rural areas.

Stay safe!

seriously in the economic times we are in there going to try to make OWB that dont meet code illegal... who's gonna enforce this? I'm glad I already have one and dont have to worry but I was considering making a homemade one for my father in-law but not sure I want to now if there gonna do this. Mise well ban fireplaces as well, if you run the OWB right it gives off little no smoke.

Morons do not see this though. They see the smokey ones and assume they are all operated this way. I can point out several in my area that are operated incorrectly. What do you do? Hold classes on how to burn wood properly? Make it mandatory that they go to a class and have the wood inspected by a local governing body to ensure they are burning properly seasoned wood? The local schmo who runs their boiler improperly is the culprit here not the rest of us.

As I have stated in another recent post, I am guilty of not cutting all of my wood in time for this season. But, I try to minimize the nuisance in the way I operate the boiler in an effort to be considerate of my neighbors.

They are already banned in my township totally or at least that is what "they" told me then I read in the paper about 3 months later that they acknowledged "they" should think about adopting some rules and regs. for installing crooked f&#kers I still get flaming mad that I even took what they said into consideration oh yeah and "they" have their hands full right now for misplacing $ 200,000 for the last year or so its ok they charged the tax payers for the audit which only cost 29,000 and they haven't found it yet no i'm not kidding !! I am not planning on listening to "them" anymore my fault for even calling to see what I could do on "my" property sorry to rant but I have been paying attention in my area that has woodboilers installed and even on mild day they don't smoke half as much as my Harmon forced air woodburner does if they do ban them I won't be surprised and its stupid and crazy and driven by one sided ignorance!:dizzy:

There is a large burner right in the middle of our town and occasionally they burn some questionable "fuel" and we get a lot of smoke. I have a home made OWB and with seasoned wood I don't have any problems with smoking the neighbors.

Your right I am just now realizing how the system works and what feeds it! It is a machine that needs to eat even in the lean times. I can see wanting some general codes to make sure someone isn't going to kill their family with their individual stupidity but a outdoor woodboiler is about as safe as your going to get the wood is being burned a good distance from your home if a chimney fire happens well I would imagine its not a huge problem and in most cases will not burn the house down. Like I have said before on other posts on this subject regardless of the state we are talking about a small percentage of people in the overall population burn wood I think most are in rural areas but i'm sure not all , these things under the right conditions can put out smoke but its at times not all the time and have you ever driven by a major refining plant there's more smoke emmited in a ten minute period than 1000 OWB burning crappy wood could ever put out why is Joe Schmoe the real bad guy. I know people have put bad stuff in their wood boilers too and that can give eveyone a bad rap but in our area people burn lots of stuff (trash) in open barrels and you can see the smoke for along distance but its OK to do to date?? Oh well I guess this has been covered here before but its frustrating because someone could heat their home for labor in cutting wood and keeping it burning but because its cutting into the "oil guys" profits someone has to put some damper on it. Hate to be sound like a conspiracy guy but it makes the most logical sense either someone has a agenda or they are truly uneducated and have never needed to burn wood because they have had a silver spoon in their mouth since they were born and gas is not a monthly bill cuz it is taken care of or paid by someone else so all that matters is right now its not "green" to do it. Ok enough for now my head is spinning. Thanks for letting me vent

Didn't mean to kill this thread with ranting, hope I didn't scare anyone away!!:greenchainsaw: Merry Christmas and Happy New year!
