Wow. The timber in this area I've been doing recon in is pretty sad, but the wildlife seems to be showing off. While driving up, this elk calf wobbled up the road. I stopped and let it get off and it didn't go far. I took these pictures from inside the pickup.

I had The Used Dog along today. We walked in on a brushy road. Part way in, I noticed some old bear poop, then a bit newer, then Ruh Roh! It wasn't steaming so we kept on. Then the hair went up on The Used Dog's back and he started barking. I peeked over the side of the hill but didn't see anything except a stump that for an instant, looked like a deer. It was a stump.

But, down where we were supposed to go, there was this.

We took a quick peek and walked on to see how the rest of the road looked.
On the way back, The Used Dog did not bark so whatever it was must have moved on.

Here is the view. There's a ridge and some peaks out there. :greenchainsaw:
Really, there are. The rain of the last couple of days had turned into a mere drizzle.

It never ceases to amaze me how close you can get to a bedded fawn. The little shrits won't even look at you, they think they're invisible.

When I do encounter one. I'll just walk on past. Then take a different way back, don't want to disturb it....
