Fubar2 sent me to this forum. I have a stihl MS 250 that kicks everytime I start it. It runs great and is a great cutter. Is this kick back normal? I have had it in the shop and changed spark plugs with different settings, still kicks.
This saw jerks at the rope and if I don't have a hold on it it will yank the rope out of my hand. I am surprised I haven't broke the starter dogs. It is a cutter and I like it. I have Huskys for felling, this little saw was bought new 3 months ago by my dad. He is an old woodsman and has ran saws from the old Lombard and Homelite days to present. He gave me the saw before he worked on it with a splitting mall. If I didn't know better I would think someone has worked on the ports. Thanks
I belive a lean condition can cause that. I have a 290 that pulls like butter and never kicks back and it has very good compression just its a small saw. You definatly have a problem there.
I gave that timing issue a real look and just knew that was the problem, but it is set to factory specs. I couldn't figure why it ran so good after it started. If it was to fast in time would it bark back through the carb. Thanks
Well, Jim L, I surmised that all along. I ran it just as hard today as I have since I inherited it, so I am just going to let er fly. Makes a good trim saw.
Thanks
I've never found it to be a problem. To me it's as smooth as anything without a decomp valve, but it was my first Stihls so I learned the feel of these things with the 025.
My 250 does that too (kick). It seems a little better now that I've run a few tanks through it, but maybe that's just because I'm used to it now. Also, it took me awhile to get used to the way it wants to be started. ONE pull on full choke then start it on the "hot start" position even when cold, or it will flood. Great little saw though
