this is my Ms 260pro w3/4 wrap handle it has a Oregon power match 20" bar and full skip 3/8 chain. it s a great size for limbing and light firewood duty:biggrinbounce2: the little saw has a little metal removed from the muffler heat shield which has really helped with the power. looking for a used muffler too woods port it. evil thing when it runs a 24" bar w/full skip for limbing. looking for more ways of modifiein:chainsawguy::popcorn:

Just port the muffler that's on it.....add a 9/16th id hole....or 1/2 inch...also enlarge the existing port to that same size.

You can buy a deflector that fits a Husky 288 that works well...better than an open hole or pipe facing forwards. Install it on the other side if there's a spot for it...or near the existing port. Use the front as a last resort, but it will work.

HUH? 260, not 460!!!

Not on a 260... way to big.. Check out Timberwolf's thread on this matter. 85% of the area of the cylinder port is a good compromise between power and the rest... (poor idle, noise, fuel consumption etc).

Just drill two holes from the back of the front cover, one above and one below the extisting, - 5/16 to 3/8 each, tune the top end to 14,500 and watch it kick 5100 butt

260 handle

bought it on ebay. it fits 066 660 (it needs one screw hole moved over a scosh) i have another in my parts pile that is not rubber coat it my go to a new home if the green backs smell right. if i do not sell the other i may put it on my 028 av wood boss when i get it rebuilt. i enjoy cross breeding Stihls. i think drillin a couple extra hole in the muffler sounds good. need to find or trade for a 026 non limited carb. i have several different saws in the scrap parts pile.i would trade some of my homey 360 or stihl 024 parts. i need to get some parts for my 028 av woodboss. i find stihls have more parts that fit multi models of saw:rock:
 :chainsawguy:

gee, more things to do for the 260....

1. Add outer dawgs to the clutch cover and get the real chain catcher kit.
2. Maybe even go for the larger 066/660 large cover with the extended guard.
3. add the 066/660 chain guard for the rear handle.
4. Elasto-ize the D-Ring.
5. Splitfire spark plug
6. Max-flo super-fly air filter
7. Two words: Longer. Bar.
8. Flames. Definitely need to add flames.

I tried to get to 10 but I just couldn't... :givebeer:

Seriously, follow Andy's advice and you'll have a little screamer. I know mine are...

Does anyone else suspect that putting a wrap and d ring handle on an 026 is a bit deranged? :hmm3grin2orange:

the d handle is a great add on on it is help full when wearing winter gloves, also being a big yellow object it is easy to find when two legged pests borrow her.as to dawgs it has a single clutch cover dawg. when the fall rolls around i put the 24" Oregon power match back on for fire wood and winter road clean up duty:hmm3grin2orange: as too muffler mods i think Andy idea of hole size will work. thanks for the info Andy. As for clutch cover flames i agree stock saws suck they need tweaked.:chainsawguy:

RPM on 260pro

Hey Lakeside
I have read many of your posts and learned much, THANKS, but Ive read that 14000 is max rpm for a 026/260 is this correct or can you safely go to
14500. I will be doing a muff mod to mine soon and would like clarification
on the rpms. Others chime in as well the more the merrier. The other
question I have is my 260 pro has the non adjustable high end carb,
should this carb run rich enough once the muff is opened up or should I
get the other carb for it.

Oh by the way Superfire

Nice mods I really like the D handle
I think I'll try one on mine
But I cant imagine a 24 incher on it.
Thats insane!!!

it aint deranged

if some one put a 12" bar on a 090 Stihl then i would agree that is deranged:hmm3grin2orange: The Stihl MS 260 pro is and ok saw from the factory, it needs to be made too suit end users wims and special needs. it is just like buying a car no plain car can suit one and al.l they need tuning and modifications. stock saws suck for pros because all sawyers have different needs and wants for their job. we are all a little off our rockers thats what makes us humans not robots:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: isay more power and bigger bars:chainsawguy:

If you can't see the orange, yeah, the yellow would help.... :biggrinbounce2:

I was thinking about D-Handles for the winter but I don't have a problem with my gloves. I do think the wrap is a bit much for the saw though.... ;) but that's just my opinion....

Dont take it the wrong way....

Superfire, Iam new around here and hope you didnt take my comment
too seriously. I'am all for the more power thing, this site is the sh.ts.
I was just wondering about the big bar, I have an 18" on mine and the
other day was seeing what it would do in some big stuff( for me anyway )
I was ripping 36" blocks of suger maple so I could pick em up into the truck
and I was impressed with the little 260 but cant imagine it having enough
juice to power a 24" bar. What kind of wood are you cutting with it and will
the muff mod soon to come to mine make that much difference in the power
Iam seeing as a stock saw.

it is a pnw thing about long bars. the d handle can be had from some of the as members. i like not to bend over when limin trees . the 260 pro is a good light weight design. the only problem with saws is the stock setup. that is why sawyers like to customize their saw(s).

hog boy

i mostly cut pinus ponderosa aka ponderosa pine. pine is fairly soft in the summer , hard as he## in the fall and winter do too the sap in the trunk. is yur saw runnin .325 or .375? . mine is runnin .375 full skip round ground chisel chain on an Oregon power match bar :biggrinbounce2: my saw wears the 3/4 wrap for limin duty. the 260 is not my heavy duty fallin saw. my 460 husky is doin that heavy work while the 048 Stihl is in the sick bay.

I dunno, two of my 335's have 9/16th id second ports.....

and that darned too loud 346 has triple ports, with the two extra holes about 1/2 inch square....no reduced back pressure problem there...just a saw that runs like a bat out of hell, and is way too loud.
I'd be very surprised if a muffler modded 026 would beat a bone stock 5100.
