Hey everyone, I have been siting back and reading all the great info on this site. I have run stihls for about 15 years now and love them. I had a ms310 that i muffler ported per what i have read, it turned out great!! But i sold it too a friend so i could get the new saw, ms440. My first question is i got this new new saw for a side job that feel into lap. A girl i work with has 6 red oaks that she waits down and will give me all the wood, How long should i wait before muffler modding the new one, as of today it has just one tank of gas through it.

I do have a tach, but but i have read not to rull WOT for the first 3 to 5 tanks. It came with a 20" bar but i have 25" gb ti bar coming soon. I have two loops of stihl rsc in 20" and two loops 25" rsf for the gb bar. I also have two 20" loops of rm and will get two loops of 25'' of rmf.

Trees range from 20'' to 39'' thats way i have full Skip for the 25'' bar. I know a 440 my be pushing a 39+ tree but until this job is done i can not afford a 660.

I have all summer to do it, so my plan was to start small, fell, limb, buck and split the small ones first. I have a ms025 for small work and limbing.

I hope to post pics and vids of the hole job.

Any input would helpfully.

Welcome to AS!!
The wait time is up to you. Do you want the waranty? Then don't do it until that time is over. Don't want/need/worry about the warnty, do it now!!!
Myself, I would hold out, not very often something goes wrong, but it sure would be nice to take it back if it were to happen!! But I know others that never started the saw until it was modded.

Just throw a factory dual-port muffler on it and don't worry about warranty issues or wait time.

Gary

You will need to adjust the carb with a factory dual port... and I'm not sure the dual port has anything to do with warranty... . it was NOT an option for the 440 - just the 046...
