MS661 Cracked Crankcase

Howdy folks!

I got a free MS661 that had the misfortune of being squashed by a crane. As I was pulling it apart, I was disappointed to find that the crankcase is cracked, but then happy to discover it is only the bottom flange and a little piece of the clutch housing.

I still have to pressure test it, but I might have gotten lucky! This saw will never work professionally again regardless if I fully replaced the crankcase. Maybe it would go to my buddy's milling setup. I wished I took a picture of it before I tore it apart. It was pretty smashed. Casualities include recoil, top cover, air box, clutch cover, etc.

I suggest that you part it out and keep the parts in a boneyard. Use the good salvaged parts to repair other 661 saws as a hobby. Good Luck!

cool let us know how the pressure test goes, she might not be pretty but that don't mean she can't work.

I would run it as long as it doesn't affect the brake mechanism or anything else

Why ? I don't see the point in parting it if it works ? I'd run it

Spend real money and get a used case half, seals, gaskets etc to end up with a good reliable saw that will work for years to come and be worth real money if the need ever arises
