I've had the carb off and on in spite of the handle being in the way but it was not easy.

Here is how I take the carb out. Hopefully you can find the other small parts you need. And this is the carb coming your way.

Thanks so much for the video.

Cowroy, that's beyond helpful. This place amazes me sometimes. I can almost certainly come up with a throttle rod tomorrow if you need it.

Partial Success

I put the saw back together. I had it in pieces to try to clean some of the accumulated dirt off of it. I had the wt-493 carb I was given. It probably isn't functioning real well but the second pull the saw fired and died. It started and ran for a little while and I think now is flooded. I think that saw pulls as hard as my 036 with the decomp off. Now I am waiting for the carb to arrive from cowroy to see what it does. Thanks for all the encouragement and suggestions. Hopefully soon I will have some pictures and video to post of it running.

Robert

Those throttle rods seem to come up missing all the time. I have an 024 and 026 on the bench waiting for those rods to show up. They are not Stihl's best design and tend to come up missing from parts saws. Did you get the correct fuel line or did you drill your hole out so the fuel line fits in? Also make sure you check the impulse line.

One last thing.....when you get the new carb you probably need to adjust it a little. I tried to adjust it as close as I could, but didn't want to turn the video into a carb adjust video. Here is a video that helped me learn how to tune by ear. I know he uses a tack to check for certain rpm's, but it's not a have to thing. It certainly helps out though. I watched the video a dozen times before I got the courage to tune my first saw by ear, but now it's like second nature. My side workload is now getting busy enough to warrant a tack I think.

I returned the first gas line and got the correct one. I put a new impulse line on as well.

The carburetor arrived from cowroy today. Started right up and runs good. The oiler works as well. Now to get Paypal to get with it and release the money. Looks like I need a chain as well.

Don't get discouraged!! It will all come together. Get the Walbro 194. It's fully adjustable. The pics of your saw looks like it will clean up like new.
The proper carb will fit on without removing the handle.

Sounds like you got her all up and running! If you need any bits and pieces let me know I might have them...

Nathan

PS: where are you in western IA? my wife is from Irwin...

I live east of Harlan near Jacksonville. Your wife would know where that is. Where in Iowa do you live? I am waiting on a tank vent from oldmar. Other than a decent chain I think I am set. I need to do some adjusting of the carburetor. That will happen maybe tomorrow night or Saturday morning.

Yeah I know where ur at... Her grandparents are in Harlan and my mom's aunt is in Avoca... We are south of Des Moines (Prole, IA).

Video update

Here is a video I took this morning cutting some dry ash. I have a new Stihl RMC chain on.

Very hard to tell how it is cutting from the vid , but it almost looks like the chain needs sharpened. I know you said it is new , but didnt appear to be cutting all that great. Try to keep your revs up and dont push it hard enough to bog it down. Just sharing my opinions and ideas.

The saw was throwing off big chips. I was probably pushing down much causing it to big down.

To me it sounds a bit rich. I would go at least another quarter turn to the right on the high side, but if your comfortable with it where it's at, then leave it alone and cut wood. :msp_wink:

:agree2:

It sounded rich to me too - but I'm no expert.

There should be a way of analysing sound frequency on a computer to tell exactly what rpm the saw was pulling at WOT before it went in the cut - I don't have the talent though.

Called a calibrated ear... I'd lean it out a little more and mix the gas a little richer than 50:1 with synthetic 2cycle mix. Good job on fixing up the saw. If you have friends at a pro shop I'd have them pressure test your saw once a year or so... The flywheel side oil seals are known to go bad in these saws.
