Old thread I know, but I plan on doing some thing similar with a 50 crank case.
I have a very nice looking nearly complete 50 but needs a piston. If I can find a closed port piston
I'll be in business, already have a closed port jug. Planning on doing the base gasket delete and put a 16'' bar on it.
It should be a mean little cuttin machine then.

I have done this same deal on several model 50's. Problem with the 50 is if it was built before 88-"ish" the 55 closed port cylinder is not a direct bolt on swap. Somewhere there is another one of old threads where I built a 50 and had to do a little custom fitting.

Great project, nice job, sounds like a runner! I was planning on doing a closed port 45mm Meteor top end on my 350 until it's "seized piston" turned out to be a loose screw caught in the flywheel when I got into it. Guess that will be a project for another day...hopefully later than sooner, I like my saws running and my money in my pocket ;)

I have a 51 i would like to do this to. Where would a guy find a closed port 55 cyl? What saws came with them? Can you buy an aftermarket one?

Right, I've heard that but mine is after 88, so far the jug seems to fit like a hand in glove.

Johnnie, where have you been hiding?
