Butch,

If you would ever take my up on my offer to send a copy of my first SRT article from TCI we wouldn't have to re-explain the system. Drop me a note off line and I'll send it to anyone. Every time I write this a couple of people write and ask for the article, But nothing from Butch

Thanks to my cousin Nick from WI the system has been explained again.

Do you see how this SRT setup has a built-in rescue component? Most times I dont' even need all of that rope. The extra stays flaked inside the rope bag. I quit coiling ropes years ago. Now they either go into bags or suitcases, pink ones are preferable :)

Pulleys and crotches with a Spanish flair

Is there a way of keeping them from getting wet and nasty when you've gotta do a climb in the rain? I find my friction piece squeeges the rope of it's grody funk, and deposits it down my front side. Not so yummy.
Single Rs don't become Ds though
I said light D; that's the distinction. A Spanish 'r' can sometimes be heard as a quasi hybrid sound, a mix between the light 'd' and an 'r'. In the word 'chipper', which I've learned is NOT 'chippadora' (the guys had a good laugh at that one), but is 'trituradora' not tree-toor-a-dora, but more like 'tdee-tooda-doda' or 'td(r)i-too(r)d-a-do(r)da'. The 'r' is very lightly, if at all, pronounced and the r-d sound is lightly sorta kind of rolled.

Sounds complicated, but the rules for pronounciation in Spanish are steadfast, unlike that in English, where one word, spelled the same way can be pronounced severel different ways, depending on meaning or context. I'd love to jump in on the Spanish thread, but I'm going on vacation and will be gone a couple months.

Butch, you should read Tom's SRT article from TCI. I read that thinking, "Finally, someone's stepped up to promote SRT in our industry." Now we discuss it frequently. You don't have to use it, but to understand it is a good thing. -TM-
