I am pretty confident that the MS361 is a much better choise, lighter, more power, and inboard clutch, and no issues with anti-vibe and air filtration, like on older Stihl constructions......

...

Okay, im getting sick of this... what is so wonderfull with inboard clutch since its always brought up in husky vs. stihl debate... it might work better when cutting alot along the grain but otherwise i see no reason why it is better than outboard ....

Outboard clutches suck when putting a long bar on a 3120.. Changing rim sprockets is a PITA.. Lets face it inboard is nicer..

Sorry RB
The closest Dolmar dealer is in Oregon (1 cold prickly).
They are using some magic that I must add to my computer just to visit their site. NOT!!! (2 cold prickleys).
The 5100 is rated for 20" bar max (YER OUT).

I seem to have the worst luck when purchasing large ticket items.
AMC (68 Javelin & 73 Gremlin) both vehicles driven for 12 years and close to 200,000 miles each. Javelin taken to Milan Dragway once in 68, 69, & 70. Ran pure stock and brought back 3 tropheys.
International Traveler (80) Nissan in line 6 cyl diesel
Pioneer Farmsaw
Generac 5kw generator that has been with local repair shop 1.5 months for simple fix. I've had extended power outages twice during that time.

I'm going to purchase something that I expect to be here when parts needed and a repair service that is responsive (the local Stihl dealer resembles that remark).

Husqvarna and Stihl have local reps.

I know I will be punished but I must ask!
What about an Echo CS670?
Jonsered (Local dealer and I owe him favor) 2159 or 2165?
and the Deeres CS62 and CS71 seem interesting, anyone know who makes them?

The JD saws are Italian Emak saws - same as Efco and OleoMac.

They have a pretty decent reputation, and the 62 cc version is the power to weight standout, even though the published numbers probably are a bit optimistic.

The only complaints I have seen, have been about the anti-vibe and fit/finish.....

Lou, the 2159 is a red 359 and the 2165 is a red 365. The handle angles are different between the 2 makes, and I am sure I am missing small thing(s) Sawtroll will know.

359 delivered Friday 16 Mar 2007. Helmet, chaps, gloves due; and expecting a tach from Amick's. I was surprised to find 359 is E-tech; are all new saws E-techs? Will Bailey's ignition module work on E-tech? Planning to contact supplier about E-tech saw Monday hope I can get a replacement.

Congrats on the new 359!

here's some insight on the muffler and ignition:
http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=40567&highlight=359+muffler+mod

Seems like a 359 E-Tec has no rev-limiter, and replacing the cat muffler with a (modded) non-EPA version from Bailey's gives the most bang for the buck. OTOH if you are crafty, you could gut the existing cat muffler and save a little.

Have fun with it, and thanks for serving! (You too fishhuntcutwood.)

.... I was surprised to find 359 is E-tech; ...

They offer them with or without here, and have done so for years, I hardly believe anyone buys the E-tech ones.....

I believe that Husky USA are pushing some models as E-techs, to save themselves some EPA-points, to be able to continue selling other models without it.

Congrats on your new saw!
..... I am sure you will find a way around the cat muffler.:greenchainsaw:

Thanks Woody;
Replacing the muffler was given as soon as I saw the green fuel cap. I thought I'd read every thread on this site but missed that one somehow. More likely I read it and dismissed it at that time, because a 359 wasn't under consideration until the folks here smartened me up.

For all future E-tail buyers in the US of A add IS IT AN E-tech SAW to your list of questions to ask the seller (mine came out of Colorado).

Get a MS361, and you won't have that problem, but I understand that there is a price differense in the US.

Here the 359 cost more than the 361, and the 357xp a lot more, so there really is no competition, except for the die-hard Husky fans........:bang: :bang:

Ms 361

Beautiful Buckley. Actually about midway between Bonney Lake and Buckley just off 410.

Stationed? Military? Retired E7 here USAF. Retired 1990

I'd go with a straight MS361 based on your description. Cost a little more...but you'll soon forget the price and be satisfied with the saw.

I have a good buddy who lives in Bonney Lake. It's really nice up there! Good Luck with your decision!
