Used a 288 deflector. This muffler mod can use screens if one wants to and deflects the exhaust way from the log so you dont catch the log on fire, which is what happens with the threw the bracket mod.

Good to see a side deflector. All these straight shot wood burners make me wonder. Looks nice. Good job.

Sharpen your chain once in a while! If you are cutting so slow that you are catching the log on fire, you must have your chain on backwards.
Just kidding, I like the Walkers style myself, just a lot of trouble.

I dont think a sharp chain is my problem...More like a load of nasty yellow birch logs. The bark on that stuff doesnt take much to char. Plus I have never cared for the through bracket mod because if your in a certain position the exhaust gas makes your hands get toasty and the saw sound louder to the operator because of the exhaust reverberating off the log.

I have a Husky 346 that I would like to mod the muffler on. What is a 288 is it a chainsaw model? Where would I get that part and does the screen come with it? How much can I open the muffler up?

My Husky 346 has a green cap. Does that indicate it has a cat muffler. If so how will that play into the modification? Would the green cap also indicate that mine has a rev limiter? And how would I deal with that.

I have modified one muffler. I have an echo345, i love the lightweight. I opened up the muffler and it gave it a bit more power. I have a tach to adjust the settings after muffler modification.

Any help would be appreciated.

My 346 is a green cap model also. No rev limiter, but it does have a cat muffler that needs to be thrown in the trash and replaced with the non cat model.
The 288 is a Husky saw from the mid 80's which uses the deflector pictured. A good place to start with a stock saw is one 3/4'' hole in addition to the existing one. This is without screens. With screens your going to have to make the oulet area a bit larger.

That looks like it turned out real good. I was wondering if the 288 is the only deflector that you can buy seperatly. I know that a 2077 also has a screw in deflector. I got a 365 and dont want to use 1/2" pipe and I like the stock look a lot better. Im going to mod it later but I want to do the muffler now. I would assume that all of the deflectors are attached to the muffler and cant be bought seperatly.

Ive modded my 346xp with a oval hole approx.3/4 long, and about 1/4 wide,in the middle of my cat muffler, and the only bad part is how it burns bark, especially of Pine, but it is a enlightened saw for that mod!
