If a MS440 was 6oz lighter, had the displacement of a 460, and had quad ports, It just might be the perfect saw.

What's 6oz? Half a beer.

If only one could buy such a saw off the shelf without having to scrounge up a used saw and spend $500 modifying it...... only to have a very expensive beat up saw.

I'm sure the Big Bore 440s ave very nice saws, but I don't see any advantage over a plain old 460 or 461. They all weigh about 14.6 lbs according to the Stihl website. I know the old published information said the 044s were lighter, but that information was incorrect. I have a first year 044 and it is the same weight as my 441.

I've weighed them on the same scales and the 44 is almost a whole lb lighter than the 46. I've never had a 441 here to weigh but from other peoples posts and pictures of weight it's right with the 460/1.

I have 461 handles on my 440 saws with 32 inch light bars ,they balance out real nice ,(with the 440 handle that bar feels nose heavy a little) ,and they are noticeably lighter than my 461 ,and a little less bulky ,the 461 has a little more tourque ,but my hybrids are right with it though for chainspeed and they don't have any problem cutting 30 inch fir

Sounds like some nice saws. My 044 is a 10mm. The advantage is they say it is a little more responsive than the 12mm, the disadvantage is you can not put a big bore kit on it. It has run just great for me for 20 years. Recently rebuilt the carb and replaced the high & low speed springs, and it runs like new again. I'm surprised those springs don't come in the rebuild kit.

I also really like the 362 C-M I got recently, my first M-Tronic saw. It took a while to break in, but now seems to cut far better than it's size. The only mod I did was to remove the Muffler Screen. Now we will see if it can give me 20 yrs!

441 outweighs the 460 by a Lil bit ;)

Not my pics. Copied from another place on the net.

This is why you can't just go by the published crap. The original 044 stuff said it weighted 13 lbs, but it is just over 14, the 441 and 460 say they weight 14.6, but they are more like 14.1.

With the 044 and 441 (pre- M Tronic) with 20" bar & chain, and full of fluids (the 044 holds a bit more gas) they both weigh 18.5 lbs on a non digital scale. And when you lift them you can not tell the difference.

The web site says my 362 is also 13 lbs, but it is significantly lighter than the 044.

I almost brought a scale into the store to compare a 562 to the 362, but they had bars attached of different length, so it would not have worked. They both feel very close to the same.

Yeah full of fluids is the best way I see to weigh them as they'll be used. The empty weight is fine but you can't cut trees like that.
