ran into an opportunity i could not walk from.

as much as i liked being where i have been for the past 3yrs (minus some alaska time) time had run its course.

although i did get a great idea on proper pruning practice and general tree preservation and learned to loooove rope climbing i am a euc man. i tried to get my oak man on, i did. but i found myself feeling as if my talent wasnt being used properly. that said......

i got a new gig.

had a test run with the company on wednesday and it was love at first crane pick.

"we'd love to have you" are some of the finest words a man can hear.

just thought i would share some of my excitement, thanks for listening!

and. if you think you got some serious tree skill and might want a gig just outside of beantown that will actually take you into the city, let me know. ive heard there is a climbing position open with a top notch company.

stay safe fellas.

That sounds great OD. Where are you working? Moving obviously, where?

Glad to hear you may have found a place to challenge you and utilize your skills better.

I'm getting burned out on treework myself, it's just too easy! lol.

Are you just a buzzard now, or still a foreman to a comittee of them?

Congrats on the new job OD!

Large removals is where it's at for me. I do all facets of tree work but I make more money far and away on large removals. I like technical rigging and lowering of big wood. Crane work presents it's own set of challenges. For me it is like tree work in fast forward. I don't own my own crane so I am usually working at breakneck speed to get the crane off site. I picked three over a house about a year and a half back in 10 hours of 1 day and the operator and site manager who was communicating signals over the radio said that they had told each other that morning that there was no way we were going to get all three down in a day. Said I really surprised them. I like picking as large as I dare and putting stuff at the curb (or even better, on the truck). Had one last year with a young operator in a 12 ton truck crane who said we needed to back up and punt after I rocked his boat onetime. I told him backing up and punting was not an option. I learned on the exact same crane he was operating and knew it's limitations. After a call to his boss, who has unflinching confidence in me, he was good to go and continued with the removal, lol. He didn't last long. I think they let him go about a month after that. I did almost full time crane removals with 2 companies back in the 90's and it was a lot of fun. I learned a lot. You can get burnt out on it though. Great experience to have whenever you go out on your own though.

ODB man, you know me. plenty of us out there. in fact, almost every single one of you buzzid's is a buzzid. i'm just oldirty.

actually still in the same neck of the woods but stepping up to the big leagues on this one. shot at the title so to speak. i'm fired up for sure. now is the time for me to get that helmet cam.....

thanks for the link treemd. gonna have a little time with it after i look around here abit.

about the crane work. when i came into the game it was for a well established family owned company with a crane. the old man ran the stick and was goooood at it. and damn could he fell a tree, best part was his climbing kit was in the toolbox though i only ever saw him climb 1 tree in the almost 5 yr i put in on 2 go rounds. lol. after that it was to another very well put together fam owned gig further down the river. that was were i first climbed off the ball and climbing in general.

fast forward like 6 years later and..

the company i am leaving now also has a crane so ive kinda been around them. best part is knowing what i have earned the knowledge of and getting back into this kind of the style of the game, i am pumped. we gonna be producing some chips baby. lol.

did i mention big chippers? should be fun.

Got to love stump cutting whole trees and winching them into the 18" chipper. Sure saves on the cleanup! :D

Personally, I can't wait to use that mini boss on a crane job. That thing is made for crane work.

I didn't know you had euc's out your way. Good luck and pound down the lumber.

Best of luck oldirty with your new venture! Sounds like you left on good terms too. Its gotta be a sad day for your old boss. I hate to see my best ones go elsewhere, but everyone must choose their own path!
