i'm like a kung fu ninja with that polesaw brother. crouching tiger hidden buzzard style.

dont mean i like it.

maybe once i slow down i'll get back to a zen like state where i find joy in the handsnip but today its not.

no action equals no interest.

but i do give much respect to those that like to do the ornamental prune. such patience.

I did one awhile back where I used the Hayuachi for every cut on a few trees. LOL, the customer said that's a handy tool to have. I said you better believe it!

I usually go with the 361 20" when I get out of 200T territory. Sometimes I try to get away with the 260 with the 16" bar but on crane jobs that's not usually the case. Of course there are lots of times I go straight to the 044 25" bar if I am in really big wood but I usually try not to break that out till the last pick on the spar when I can cut from the ground.I'll generally only change over saws one time and let the size of the tree dictate which saw I use. The guy who taught me how to do crane work made me carry a 038 boat anchor the whole climb. Man I hated that saw. :chainsaw:

Yeah.

/sad news that you never found enough oakman talent to keep that going. This trade is full of eucmen right now, wanting to ride the ball and make the lumber fly. No balance in the industry.

Soo true seer.

I gotta force myself to learn to enjoy pruning more, theres a great demand for more pruners/arborists out there, unfortunately like oldirty, I like the action too.

Sinse I started for myself (this is my 13th year in buisiness) I mostly try and avoid pruning unless its what the customer wants. Part of the problem is that its only me and I get real particular when I prune, so its real slow sometimes, especially on big trees. I also hate watching the ground dog catching flies and laying around on the chipper. The other reason I dont like it is that working for other people burned me up on it somewhat. It was the old: prune this entire property with a couple of greenhorns while I ride around all day and play big shot sort of deal. No thanks.

But I think I could get into it again... maybe when I get my own licence (this year hopefully) I'll don the arborist hat, I know pruning can make a lot of work where there would be none if you only did removals. I suspect this is how companies grow and can afford better employees than the losers I've got now, lol.

I usually take longer than i estimate too, which is why I like being on the clock. But I'd rather eat some profit than rush.

Re groundies, teach them root feeding--aeration and inoculation with compost--, and do it for every tree.

Congrats on the new gig!

I was laughing when I read your first post about trying to suppress your eucman tendencies and encourage the oakman inside. :)

It's funny how life works; right now I'm working for eucmen (ex-asplundh guys) and they don't really appreciate my oakman tendencies. I've noticed my chainsaw gets used a LOT more than my previous gigs and it's been a challenge to adapt as I'm a through and through oakman. I'm trying to find the eucman speed with the oakman quality balance :chainsaw:.

Good luck! :greenchainsaw:

what an absolutely outstanding day fellas. so what it rained all day and everytime i came down my line it looked like baby puke on my shirt from the knot and wet rope. who cares about that stuff.

it was a beautiful day starting a 42in silver maple over the new fence and house drop in the backyard, every crane pick blind at almost 4 oclock. yes sir running the 395 with a 36in bar in the air is indeed a good ####'n time. the balls even.

it doesnt matter the crane is a brand new 38ton jammie and the operator is outstanding. did i mention blind picks? (those headsets are sick btw its nice to have someone to shoot the #### with while hanging out in the tree)

the best part? oldirty got himself into the beetle fight. look out you asian pricks! hahahahaha wooooooooooooo!

Atta boy! Glad your enjoying it OD. Blind picks with a good operator is the bomb. Nothing like moving some big wood. Glad your back in your element brother!

thanks tom!

new gig is indeed a good time. ive sizzled through 3 prussics already and the only saw i am cutting with is a 372, lol. i havent seen my beloved 2hunge in quite some time!

grapple chipper just being fed at a rate i've never seen and the 30yd chiptruck always on the go.

my only complaint? ive only had 2 iced coffees since ive punched in on their clock. lol.

about the pics, the only way that'll happen is if i get a helmet cam or the likes, i dont really have the time to screw around with a handheld. we'll see if i can figure something out though.

stay safe.

safety first, i agree. if you traded in the 2-hunge for a 372 i've already got a pretty good 'pic' of the kind of wood you're moving. :chainsawguy:
take care OD.

Oldirty, let me know if you're doing any jobs out near Worcester, I'll stop by with a couple large iced coffees to see what the fuss is all about.

actually am down that way mihalek and i just may have to take you up on that coffee offer. lol. not sure how public i can be with the team name but if you want to know what colors to look for pm me. you'd enjoy the show.

30 yrd chip truck always on the go?? What are you guys tryin to do create a friggin desert up there? lol.

Sounds like fun though I gotta say.

Best of luck ya old crow! er...buzzard I mean.

Finally got some decent stuff going on around here. Finally tried the hitch climber out on a job yesterday - with the new saddle. I gotta say it sure seems like alot of FN around, but maybe I just gotta get used to it. Sure is sweet action once finally set up though. The only problem is theres no quick way to get your rope free in order to advance your climbing line with three sections like I do often. It was a quick tree so I cant really say too much yet. I can tell you it took me almost as long to tie and set that thing up as it did to hack down this chestnut oak, lol. My old school buddy was laughing it up real nice. This dude is 48 years old and one of the nastiest treeguys I've ever seen. Dudes a tank. I also got the 23 year old kid that bought my old chipper helping out and climbing some. There is nothing like youth I gotta say, this kids gonna be good thats for certain. We devised a plan to torture this complete piece of crap thats been plaguing me on and off for three years now last week, long brush drag, me up in the bucket trimming this big a$$ white pine hedge, him burying the kid on an ash takedown out back - doesnt matter, it still doesnt work, the kid just starts up the chipper for two branches and hides - or goes for yet another drink of water all the way on the other side of the house all slow and languid like (I was thinking of getting a camel back for him so he can drag and drink, but he'd probably just break it somehow, lol). I'm bustin out the firing hat for the first time this year pretty soon I think. I've seriously never seen such a completly shameless loser before on a job before.....grrrr
